Is it possible to derive a value of the Risk Coefficient or RTGM (Risk-Targeted Ground Motion) of a region manually or using OpenQuake? Can this calculation be performed using Excel? If you can you provide a sample? Please help, thank you very much.

Dear Jhon,

OpenQuake does not have this functionality. You can however derive hazard curves from different IMs and select existing fragility functions to perform such analysis. For further information about the iterative process required to determine the risk-targeted ground shaking, I recommend the following publications (though I note there are many):

  1. Luco N. Ellingwood B. R. Hamburger R. O. Hooper J. D. Kimball J. K. and Kircher C. A. 2007. Risk-targeted versus current seismic design maps for the conterminous United States, in SEAOC 2007 Convention Proceedings, Sacramento, CA.
  2. Silva V, Crowley H, Bazzurro P (2015). Exploring Risk-targeted Hazard Maps for Europe. Earthquake Spectra, 32(2):1165-1186. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1193/112514eqs198m

Best regards,

Vitor Silva
