Hello all,

I am currently working on transferring some fragility curves from HAZUS into OpenQuake. This involves converting the given HAZUS parameters (median & beta) into the necessary parameters for HAZUS (mean and stdev).

I know some threads already exist on the subject, however, even with the information from previous discussions I have not been able to successfully do those conversions.

I used the formulas given in the pdf “Formulae for Lognormal Fragility Functions.pdf” (attached here) and plugged in the beta and median from HAZUS, but the mean and standard deviation I obtain are very different from the ones in the pre-defined fragility curves on the OpenQuake platform (https://platform.openquake.org/vulnerability/view/415).

I am attaching the Excel file I’ve been using. I took the fragility parameters from the HAZUS technical manual and those are my calculations for W1 Moderate code.

If someone has gone through this process before and could point out my mistakes, I would be very grateful.

Thank you for your time.

Best,

Johanna

Hi Joanna,

I am attaching my calculations - I went from values on OpenQuake platform to get the HAZUS numbers for W1 MC.
You need to use formulas to convert to logmeans and logsigmas, calculate median and beta out of that
and compare to the equvalent PGA structural fragility parameters - Table 5-29.

Hope it helps
Peter

This is very helpful.

Thanks a lot Peter!
