Hi,

I was trying to reproduce the results of ESHM20 for Sweden but am a bit confused with how the Mmin and Mmax parameters are implemented in the source model file.

For example, in the zone SEAS413 the source model input file has the following parameteres
<truncGutenbergRichterMFD aValue="1.6638 " bValue="0.8781" minMag="4.5" maxMag="6.3"/>
However, the catalogue file has seven of its eight events below this minMag specified.

I was wondering how I should go about specifying minMag for my data? If my zone catalogue has a completeness magnitude of 1.0, should I specify that as my minMag? How does openquake use the minMag and maxMag parameters specified in the source model file?

Many thanks!
Joshi

The mmin is not set using seismicity but is selected following engineering considerations. See for example https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=mmin+bommer+earthquake&btnG=
