I tried loading QM on my new MacBook Air with the Apple Silicon M1 chip.

It didn't work, which I guess is not too surprising since it doesn't have an Intel processor. The last few lines are...
-----------------------------------------------------------

x SYSCOM/TTY.H

x terminfo.src

x messages.txt

x version

x ecs-maps/

x ecs-maps/BASE

./qml64_4-0-0: line 100: /tmp/qmsxa.M9vBSJ/l64bin/install: cannot execute binary file

***** Install failed *****

--------------------------------------------
I tried some of the workarounds suggested by people with installing other linux software (running the command line using the Apple emulator Rosetta) but none worked.

I am currently running QM on my Intel MacBookPro so this was really just playing around, but long term Apple is ditching Intel so hopefully a way can be found to run QM on the new hardware.

Hi Fred,

I am not surprised that it failed. As you say, the new systems are not Intel compatible.

I will investigate how tough the migration would be.

Martin.

You may not need to migrate QM — it may just be a matter of tweaking the installer to run under Apples emulator (Rosetta),  From some internet research, people have gotten other software.install and run (lots of Ruby stuff, for example).

I tried tweaking the install script and got to the point where “install” reported a different error “Inappropriate file type” (or similar — not at that computer right now), so that is progress of a sort :)

Stumbled upon this old thread and just wanted to update the record -- I have loaded QM-4.0-5 on my M1 MacBookAir running Big Sur.

In my earlier attempt it look to me if the issue was in the installer and either Apple or Martin tweaked something and it loaded without a hitch.
