I am a long time former user of open QM on Windows machines using Accuterm as the terminal emulator and IDE.  I have recently changed most of my systems to Ubuntu Linux.
I just obtained an open QM licence for Linux from Rocket Software.  Is there a good replacement for Accuterm that runs under Linux?

Hi Dick,
You will have to define what a "good" replacement needs to do ... However, if you want to use the AccuTerm GUI, or use the client-side scripting that is available in AccuTerm, then - NO, there is no good replacement for AccuTerm. (Wintegrate may offer some of these functions).

For basic terminal emulation, then there are plenty of terminal emulators available. If you want to use PuTTY, then look here for configuration instructions: https://www.rushflat.co.nz/articles/using-putty-with-openqm

You can run AccuTerm under Wine. Make sure you add multiarch support before you install Wine. See here for instructions: https://wiki.debian.org/Wine

Install Winetricks too.

Once installed, start Winetricks, and that will set up the basic environment. Then install the VB6 runtime (through Winetricks), then install AccuTerm (choose 'Run uninstaller' from with Winetricks).

AccuTerm runs pretty much the same as on Windows, but has a slightly different look. (I haven't tried AT 8 under Wine, but AT 7 runs fine).

Cheers,

Brian

Dick, if you're after something that's got AccuTerm's special abilities
like the WED editor and GUI creation tool, I don't think there is anything
like that out there for Linux.

All of my QM licenses are QM/Linux, yet I still connect using AccuTerm from my Windows workstation.
Currently, I have CentOS 7, CentOS 8, and Rocky Linux 8, but I still connect via AccuTerm from my Windows workstation.
Actually, I have been using AccuTerm since DOS 3.1
Kind of dates me, huh?

Hi Dick -

As Brian says, you can run AccuTerm on Linux using Wine. I have not tested this for several years, but I have tested AccuTerm 8.1 on CrossOver Linux and there are "CrossTie" files in the CrossOver database to make installing AccuTerm a breeze. CrossOver is the commercial version of Wine.

Thanks, Pete
