Hi,

I am new to openQM. I find it very weird to wrk on the QM console. How
do I create a file, set up its fields, and update it with data. Also
how do I create a user account with limited rights to access the file.
Thanks in Advance

Hello,

I see from your group subscription that you are using the personal
version of OpenQM under Windows. As such, you will probably get a
better response from the main OpenQM list, which has more subscribers.

These was talk of a tutorial for newcomers, but I'm not aware if this
came to fruition. A good reference place is the on-line documentation
at http://www.openqm.org/docs

Creating files is easy (eg. CREATE-FILE PEOPLE), but the detail of
dictionaries, fields and security are much more obscure. It will take
you much more time to figure this out than it does in a Windows GUI
application such as Access.

hope this helps

Ashley

BTW. If you do in fact want to extend the GPL release of OpenQM, then
take a look at ScarletDME (scarletdme.org), which is based on the
OpenQM release.

Download the "Getting Started in OpenQM" document from:

www.rushflat.co.nz

That contains a lot of information useful for beginners.

Cheers,

Brian

This is under its final review before first release - probably in a month or
so.

File Access and security is controlled by the Operating system, so you
can set file permissions etc as you would for a windows user.

All of the "fields" are defined in the files Dictionary. Which is
created by the command Ashley showed. You refer to the dictionary as
DICT YOURFILE FieldName
You will need to read the Howto Brian listed to gain a proper
understanding. Probably reading the first chapters OpenQM pdf manual
will help too.
Your other questions have been answered I think.

Good luck and if you want to get into the Open Source version (Same
but we can get at the sourcecode and it's Free (as in speech, not
beer)) then give us a shout here.
