Pivot table renamed field

I am trying to scan a pivot table to compare against fields in a connection or normal tables, this works fine when the original names are used;however, if a user has renamed a field I'm unable to find a way to compare it to the original, does anyone have any knowledge on how to handle this? Originally I thought the fld property of the data field would help but I can figure out how to tie it back
