Hello,

I am trying to download PTV eventually, however I need to go through installing check MSYS and then Cmake. Now I am at the point where I am getting errors when I am installing MinGW . When I am in the check director and run command ./configure everything seems fine until I run the second commandMake.
I attached a screenshot of all the files and the messages I get after I ran the two commands. Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions. Any help will be appreciated.

Any helps will be greatly appreciated!

Best,
Parisa

Looks to me like not everything is installed correctly with MSYS.

Just for reference, which install instructions are you using? The revised one
in my latest pull request, or the older ones? Also, which version of Check?

Yosef.

PS - Please, in the future, it would be more helpful if you copy the text of
the errors rather than attach a screenshot.

Hi Yosef,

Thank you so much for replying.
I had never installed MSYS and so I don't know how to make sure whether it's fully installed or not. But when I was installing it ,I made sure to install all the options it had in the list. Please look at the attachment where I attached a couple of screenshots of some of the options in that long list.

Also these are the websites I have been mainly using.
http://alexlib.github.io/docs/installation_instruction.html

Thank you for your help.

I have just updated the documentation with the new instructions from Yosef and also merged his pull request to OpenPTV.

So, please, download again the OpenPTV and see the new instructions also inside the /liboptv/Readme.txt

Please note that the documentation now automatically updated on: http://openptv-python.readthedocs.org/ (instead of http://alexlib.github.io/docs which is also updated meanwhile)

Yosef, Patrik - I think we shall try to prepare an installation package that does not require the compilation from source or, at least, provides a set of working packages (e.g. check with commented out lines, cmake with the right paths, all fixed to C:\Msys and C:\MingW and C:\OpenPTV - as a compromise)

Best regards,
Alex

PS: Parisa - I think the best way is really to have Ubuntu or other Linux as a double boot (it's really easy to install these days) and in a hour or so you'll have a working software. Another thing that we can try is to have a remote access to your machine (TeamViewer, etc.) or Skype with shared screen and try to instruct you online through the installation process. Surely you can do it yourself if you move slowly through the installation instructions and read the small letters - the problem with Windows is the PATH - it can install things in a different place and no one will know it unless it's verified.

It shouldn't be hard to make an installer for liboptv the way we did before, now that we know it compiles. CMake already knows how. I'll try to do this soon.

I would add to the dual boot option - It's possible to run Ubuntu in a virtual machine too.

Hi Parisa

If you let us access your machine on remote via TeamViewer, I can try to fix things in the installation.

Hi everybody,

I couldn't install openptv on Parisa computer. This is a somewhat strange set of errors that started with this error:

then I fixed it with patching the gcc with 8.4.2 according to this solution:

then when reached the check installation, it failed (despite the fix of the libcompat.h)

with the snapshot:

Anyone who can prepare please a pre-compiled version of OpenPTV on a Windows 7 64 bit machine, please send us the file.

see the solution here:

installation of openptv on Windows 7 (and 8.1) using Mingw (32 bit) and pre-compiled libraries

Installation of OpenPTV on Windows 7 and 8.1 using MinGW and pre-compiled libraries

1. install mingw to C:\Mingw from http://www.mingw.org/
   * run the installer
   * select mingw-develop
   * go to c:\mingw\msys\1.0\postinstall and run pi.bat (answer ‘y’ and type c:\mingw)
   * run msys.bat from c:\mingw\msys\1.0
1.      install Anaconda Python distribution with Python 2.7 and 32-bit http://continuum.io/downloads#all
   * open the shell (msys.bat) and use command line to install additional things:
      * conda update conda
      * conda install traitsui
      * conda install enable
      * conda install chaco
   * unzip it into c:\mingw\msys\1.0\home\USERNAME\openptv-python
   * unzip it into c:\mingw\msys\1.0\home\USERNAME\test_cavity
1. Download pre-compiled libraries from our Google Drive folder:
Note that there are three directories with a couple of files each, please copy the content of each subdirectory in the respective path on your machine:
1. mingw to c:\mingw (it includes in msys/lib the check and optv libraries and in msys/include the optv/include and check.h and /etc/profile and /etc/fstab)
2. Anaconda/libs/libpython27.a to Anaconda/libs
3. and three PYD (like a DLL) to openptv-python/src_c folder (ptv1.pyd, tracking_run.pyd and tracking_framebuf.pyd)

Open MSYS shell, change directory to openptv-python/pyptv_gui and run the software:

$ cd openptv-python/pyptv_gui
$ python pyptv_gui.py ../../test_cavity

Hello,

did anybody find a solution to the problem with the check installation? I’m struggling with the same set of errors that you posted nearly a year ago. I already have a running system of OpenPTV (I used the pre-compiled libraries) but I would like to have the possibility to use the newest updated versions of openPTV in the future. Unfortunately the links to the pre-compiled libraries are now leading to an empty folder. So I assume somebody deleted them already. I would really appreciate if you can help me!

Kind regards,

Thorsten

what is your platform, computer hardware, etc? if we have an access to a similar machine we might recompile the updated libraries.
can you also post here the link that is broken?

thanks
