I was searching for a way to impliment a web-based poker server for me
and a few friends (just tabbing the results).

It is unclear to me what the capabilites of OpenPoker are, and the
basics on how to impliment it.

I am assuming that it is not already complied/needs a custom interface
-- am I wrong in this assumption?

Also, besides this group -- is there another repository of knowledge
for OpenPoker at a different location.

thank you in advance for all you help :)

What's a web-based poker server?

Install the version at http://sf.net/projects/openpoker. It comes
with client and server packages but requires MS SQL Server 2000.

You will need to learn Erlang and build a poker client to use the
latest server.

No.

Is this only the corporate? Or will the express version work?

I used express before. Some people even got it to work with the
latest version. Browse this forum.

I have installed MSSQL 2000 on my Win XP Machine. I have also
installed SP3a for the SQL server.

My server will run, but I recieve an error when I try to install
openpoker, specificly when I enter the Database name, account name, and
account password.

Any help would be apreciated, as I am interested in customizing this
and purchasing a Comercial Liscense.

You should try to connect to SQL Server using standard tools like
isql. This would verify that your connection is set up correctly.
More likely than not this is a SQL Server configuration problem.

Make sure its running in Mixed Authentication Mode and after the
installation you start the SQL Server Service. By default, its stopped.

Dont forget to create the c:\temp directory.

How do I make sure that it is running in "mixed authentication mode"?

It should of prompted you for it when you installed SQL. Did you create a
password for the user?

if not Open Enterprise Manager, Right click on your Server, and look at the
properties.

does the install create a new database -- or do i need to create one
manualy.

also -- Joel: I have been unsuccesful so far in getting OpenPoker to
function at all on my machine. If you think that a step-by-step guid
would be helpful, I would consider trying again if one was supplied.

If I continue in being unsucessful in installing OpenPoker, I will be
forced to use a different software and will not be purchasing a
Comercial Liscense.

I do not mean for this to sound threatening -- just letting you know
that if I can't get it to install, I can't use it.

Also, I realize that it will require some programming/tweaking etc.
and am capable of doing this -- i'm just stuck with the instalation.

Try creating a database manually.

I'm sorry to hear this but I do not support this product and thus a
manual won't be forthcoming. I work on the Erlang version of
OpenPoker but it lacks a poker client.

It appears that you are serious about this so I'll lay my cards on
the table. You should either talk to Matt (he replied to you earlier)
or consider a different product. I do not support the Delphi version
of OpenPoker and it's likely far beyond your skills to get it to a
production-quality level if you are having trouble with installation.

Matt can sell you a license with support, please talk to him. He also
spent considerable time and resources in trying to improve the
product and since he's a licensee he has some private patches and
improvements that he is not obligated to release.

Thanks, Joel

In fact Matt told me earlier by private email:

---clip---

I no longer have any of the files associated with OP. They have all been
deleted.

Hello!

You wrote that you got v1.2 about openpoker. I'm currently playing
online with my relatives and I'd like to use openpoker as software.

Are you going to share you exe-files to use with my own openpoker server?

If you could do that I would be thankful.

Waiting to hear from you,

-Jere-

So If he has files / modified sources he's lied to me. Waiting hear the
truth :)

He must have deleted them if he says so. The software is buggy so I
understand his frustration. Still, this is open source software and
everyone is free to outfit themselves with Delphi (port to
Delphi.NET?) and poke around.

Now, the software has been out in the open for something like a
couple of years now. Matt is the _only_ person who has contributed
significantly, if privately. I gave another person commit access to
the SourceForge repository to check in their patches.

Well seemingly there is some people wanting to put their hat in the
ring, I am considering doing some work on it. I am in the process of
having a 3rd party develop a new product. Ill post some screenshots at
some point.. I do have rights as Joel described. The software has bugs
as described. I have fixed some major bugs and spent a lot of time
(over a year to 18 months and used 2 different paid consultants as
well)

Thank you for your reply -- and please let me know when the screenshots
etc are posted so that I may take a look.

Please let me konw of any future developments.

I am going to start posting some information regarding what I have done with
OP Delphi. I am currently busy with a project but keep checking back to this
website / newsgroup.
