Hi Chetan,

It should work, but you may run into some precision issues or software configuration issues. The MKS boards use poor stepper drivers and others have ran into problems with the version of Smoothie that is installed. Search the mailing list for MKS to see what other people have experienced.

@Jason : That's a MKS Gen, not a MKS Sgen, it doesn't run smoothie. I know because many users contact me about being upset at smoothie not working on it ...

Those are 3D printer boards compatibel with RAMPS boards and can run Marlin software, which is supported by the Gcode driver.
Technically I would assume they should work without major problems.
The good thing about those boards compared to the original RAMPS is that you can run them with 24V, which is good if you want your
steppers to run at higher speed.
All 4 power outputs are protected against inductive loads, allowing to control DC-motor pumps and valves for vacuum, as long as
they run the same voltage, since the board only has a single common power input.
I don't know if you can control the power outputs with standard software setup however, since within 3D printer firmware they are used
for heating and fan control.
My own machine will be using two of those, since I need more than 5 steppers (currently 9).
Also I will run a custom firmware based on Repetier.
Repetier firmware isn't directly supported, since it uses a different protocol, but with my setup I will have to to modify the driver code anyway.
My personal choice for Repetier is just based on the fact that I already know a fair bit of the sourcecode.
I suggest using DRV8825 based stepper driver modules.
They run cooler than the A4988 drivers allowing for more motor current.
You should use a fan if you run A4988 at >=1A, or DRV8825 at >= 1.5A.
If you want to use beefy motors you can hook up external high power motor drivers as well.
That said:
My own OpenPnP machine isn't running yet and I havn't even powered up my own MKS Gen boards.
My experience is from running similar boards with and without those driver modules for several other machines.

The board is a MKS Gen 1.4   it runs Marlin   I have changed my MKs 1.2 to mks 1.4  on my Sunhokey Pusa I also have a MKS Sgen for my Build for open PNP build.
Note the drivers  on the MKS board are not plugable and I do not Like the Idea of running  both Y steppers .But you can use a pin headers to drive external Stepper Drivers.

If you need to buy a new board the Do not Buy a  MKS board they have no support

I have a SGEN_L board, and that runds fine, i compiled my own firmware.

Hi Robo

It depends on your expectations to a “board”

I would argue the mks (Arduino Mega) is outdated, for 3D printing and PNP.

There are other much more capable Processors.

Just received a BTT SKR v.1.4 (again ;o) and a BTT v1.1 Pro board, which has more PWM outputs....

So far running the v1.4 with Marlin 2.0.5.x on my still-to-complete PnP machine...and in parallel testing the v1.1 pro board just with steppers and LCD attached...
In the end the v1.1 Pro will go into the PnP machine and the v1.4 with TMC5161 drivers into my desktop CNC milling machine....

Quite soon mine specialized controller will be available:

uni_ctrl.jpg

It is STM32H7xx based ( 480Mhz single core).  Gcode controlled, 7 segment S-curves support. Here without optional ethernet interface ( final version will have it on board) and without shield with DRV8825 chips.
You will need two for a machine ( one for head controller, supports dual head) and one for XY control.

Right now I have been debugging motion control ( boot loader and base software already works).
