As I was designing and building my machine, I wasn't sure what focal length lens to pick.
I
got f6.0mm, f8.00mm, f12.00mm, all 1/2.7" lenses, used the same camera,
same target, same lighting conditions, and took the attached pictures.

In the pictures, the BGA is an: TFBGA 100-ball, 8 x 8 mm, 0.8 mm pitch fine pitch ball grid array package.
The QFNs to the bottom left are: TI S-PVQFN-N20 or VQFN-N20. 20 pin, 0.65mm pitch
The part to the diagonal right is: Atmel 8MA1 - UDFN. 6mm x 5mm, 8 pin, 1.27mm pitch.
