This is weird

So today I hook up the X axis ball screw and test it in the browser app
Pushing the X+ button or the X- button does the same exact thing
The X axis only moves in the + direction
G0 X100 or G0 X-100, it only moves in the  + direction

I was thinking it had something to do with the X min homing limit switch?
I had hooked up a X min and X max limit switch to test and they worked fine the other day

To test homing, I hit the X home button in the browser and then tripped the X min limit switch while X was moving
X slows down and then moves the same direction at a slower backing off speed
So it looks like X axis is homing, but not reversing directions like it should

Disabling the limit switches in the config does not fix the issue

Issuing a M999 comand and then setting home with G28.3 does not fix the issue

Powering everything down and starting from scratch does not fix the issue

The motor works fine when moved to the Z, Y or B axis, so it's not the motor
I plugged in another motor to the X axis and that motor does the same thing, always moves to the +

What is going on here?
Thanks

That can't be something homing is doing so ignore that
99% probability: only 3 out of the 4 wires of your motor go from your motor to the driver ( connector issue most likely, wire issue or motor issue much more rarely )
Or a driver is partially dead. If that's the case, you have to stop everything and we have to understand why you just killed two when this board is super sturdy and such incidences are extremely rare.

Thanks Art, but I have not even messed with X axis
I was spending all my time getting that double Y axis going

I'll check the board connector
But I plugged the same motor into another axis and it worked fine

I'll pull the board and have a look under magnification to see if something has bridged a connection

Not sure what you mean, I have not said anything about a specific driver, I didn't even get the information of which driver/motor is going wrong from your text, as the overall sound of it sounded so familiar I just gave the generic "going only in one direction" answer.

I am not sure what you are saying?
My post was all about the X axis

My answer was all about whatever axis you were talking about, I'm not sure why you answered something about different axes when I didn't mention anything about that, I didn't understand where that came from.
It went :
« I have this problem »
I answered « This might be your issue »
and then you go « Thanks but ... »
Didn't understand what that was about.

I have no idea what happened to the conversation :)

Anywho, I took everything apart and took the smoothie over to the bench to have a look at it with magnification
I could not see anything weird

I went back and hooked it all up again and the X axis works again :)
I have no idea what the issue was
Must have been a connection problem as you said Art

I really do hate those wimpy push on 4 pin connectors
On all 4 of the CNC and 3D printers I have made from scratch, I soldered all the wires to terminal boards

I may solder the wires from the smoothie board over to screw terminal blocks
Then soldered ring terminals on the wires going to the motors

Thanks for your help Art
Here's the next update video of the build with X, Y and Z axis all running

Doug,

Love seeing the progress on this. When you get to that point It'd be great to see how fast this can move.

Thanks Scott
When I get everything bolted down properly, squared and secured rigid, I'll start to work on X and Y speeds.
I'll keep doing more build videos :)
