Hi all,

I have bought the MicroSMT OpenPNP kit and, while waiting for it to arrive, printed all of the 3D printer parts needed for it and for a number of 0816 automatic feeders.  It is now here.

While there seems to be a YouTube video for everything one can possibly imagine, I have NOT found any videos that cover the actual assembly of the PNP machine or the automatic feeder.  Lots of videos on how to tune things but not assembly.  Maybe I did not look hard enough.

The reason I ask is two-fold:
  • The instructions are written by someone where English is barely a second language and some steps are confusing at first glance.
  • If there isn't one for microsmt/openpnp assembly and/or 0816 autofeeder, I will create those videos (mostly using timelapse) while I assemble mine with narrative.  But I don't want to do so if there is already a good one out there.
Quick background: Engineer doing hardware and software for over 40 years and design systems from scratch (for both).  Built both a CNC machine years ago and the Prusa 3D printer kit more recently which both work great, so not a newbie -- although I am a bit of a newbie creating "how to" videos if, in fact, there is a need for one or both.

FWIW, this e-mail is my Google surrogate for MICROCode Consulting/Lightning AccuTimers.

Thanks!

-Mitch

Hi Mitch
There is a video if you look at : https://www.youtube.com/@bingluo8417 web you will find more videos..
As far as I know he was selling only 8mm tape feeders and since he is not providing stl files for 12 and 16mm feeders I made drawings and files for printing see:

Made changes:
1) incorporated in base part cover tape removal with new gears with bearings, Worm is double Helix which can be as well 3D printed files included, springs changed, fixing of metal and some printed parts is done with use of inserts. (see text in GrabCad)
2) Feeders 12 and 16 mm added.
This is all - any questions - ask

From the video, it looks as if the part is not being pushed out far enough. The part that is protected by the feed cover is only partially exposed and the part that can be picked is moved out into the open without benefit of the cover.

In video, the simulation of motion is done by simple Servo tester and a short servo arm -fine tuning based on Code from mgrl.de is needed- read here:
- stroke can be fine tuned to desired one by value of PWM & defined servo arm angle and arm length.

Okay. I kind of though it might be a configuration issue.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for responding and for the video link(s).    It looks like that is an earlier version of the 8mm (12mm, 16mm) feeders but I will see if it applies well enough.  The current version is v1.8 and the parts I printed do not quite match what is in those videos.

Here is what I have been printing: a few 8mm and a couple 12mm so far...

As I don't see a video on how to assembly the microsmt openpnp kit, I will endeavor to do so.  The frame installation PDF is not too bad but gets worse as you get further into it, but the electronics assembly is really hard to follow...

Shimis,
Your Subject line is -  Microsmt OpenPNP - https://www.microsmt.com.cn/
and my reply above is based on this subject line.
which is a different feeder - all 3D printed parts
the only thing in common is electronic part.

IMG_0069.jpegAs far as I can tell, I am ok.  My kit includes 0816 worm feeder parts so I think(hope?) I printed the correct 3d parts.  Still looking for a 0816 video but it is probably close to that one. Meager instructions on that mgrl website.

0816 was completely designed by mgrl, so I cannot put its drawings on my website. You can learn from  on mgrl’s  website.   But I redesigned a worm stripping structure,  You can download it on my website. 1690859604(1).png

I currently don't have time to shoot a video of assembling the machine. It is a basic version of OpenPNP hardware and doesn't have any special design. It's just that my supplier has high machining accuracy.  DIY cannot achieve this accuracy.  When you get the kit, it won't be as complicated as when you just read the manual.

I have my first video posted (a little while back).  Working on the second one as well as one for the feeders that came with the kit.

Got a little guidance from Bing (thank you!) that I tried to incorporate.
