Hi,

I'm trying to turn off the camera auto-exposure.  If I use a utility like v4l2ucp, it will turn off auto-exposure and my camera will work well.  But of course next time I turn on my computer, these settings will be lost.

So instead I'm trying to set CAP_PROP_AUTO_EXPOSURE in camera properties.  Each time I try a value and press Apply, the image changes somewhat, but the auto-exposure is still turned on.

1.  What value should I set the CAP_PROP_AUTO_EXPOSURE property to turn off auto-exposure?

2.  What do the "Set Before Open" and "Set After Open" switches refer to?

Thanks,

Al

Hi Al, if recommend switching over to OpenPnpCaptureCamera instead of OoenCvCamera if you can. It is far more stable and better supported.

Jason,

O/K, will do!   I've been away for a bit and have fallen behind.  So now I'm trying to catch up to the latest and greatest!

Hi, Al (and Jason.) Is there a procedure to switch over  to OpenPnpCaptureCamera? I edited my Machine.xml file (which had been ported to OpenPnP2). After replacing the "OpenCVCamera with OpenPnpCaptureCamera, the program crashes with attribute "device-index" not in class. Is there an example of how to set this part of the Machine.xml file?
Best,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Easiest thing to do is just delete the camera from inside OpenPnP (under Machine Setup) and then add a new one, also inside OpenPnP, with OpenPnpCaptureCamera.

The OpenPnpCaptureCamera is working great. Thanks, Jason!  I really like the slidebar adjustments. I was always crashing the OpenCVCamera when I sent a out-of-range number. I was able to get the camera adjusted better in 5 minutes that a couple of hours yesterday afternoon.
Best,
Jim
