I saw more than ten brands of desktop PNP devices on Chinese websites, and their manufacturing processes are already very good. They use ball screws and servo motors, and the prices are not expensive, ranging from $3000 to $4000. But they have a common drawback, which is that they are very heavy, both weighing over 80 kilograms. So they are difficult to sell across borders.
Today I saw an even more amazing machine that used a marble platform, weighing 150 kilograms and priced at just $4000.

The high density and low coefficient of thermal expansion of marble are definitely advantageous.

A small desktop placement machine also needs a certain dead weight to be able to counteract the high moving masses (gantry + head) and the enormous accelerations (>3g).

I do not believe that a high transport weight would be an obstacle to export, but that other reasons are decisive: e.g. language, support, safety requirements / certificates, etc.

But at these tempting prices, you could hardly build machines of this quality yourself outside of China, which is why they will sooner or later establish themselves on the low-cost market.

If the marble is damaged during transportation, the machine will be returned to the factory for free to replace with a new marble. But if it's cross-border trade, this machine will only be scrapped

sure... try to return product to Chinese manufacturer for repair, and you will face the difficulties of the Chinese custom.... you'll regret that you sent it.
The Chinese authorities does not understand that there are customers like me that will not order high cost products from China only because of their bureaucracy
