Homing Problem

Hello Guys,

I am really confused now between the Home button and P buttons in the control panel.
1 - I paused the head over a point, and I clicked the home button. The color of the button changed to gray but the coordination yellow bar gives old values of x y z position and they are not changed to  0,0,0  is that correct ?
2 - When I move the head away from this point and I want to home it via Home Button the machine is not moved but when I click the P button the machine returns to that point.
Maybe I have to configure home parameters in the config.txt file !

Hi Rashad,

The home button just executes your HOME_COMMAND, which is normally going to be something like G28. This should cause the machine to move to the endstops and touch off, and then the coordinates will reset to 0,0,0,0 + the offsets of the selected tool. So, check your HOME_COMMAND first and make sure it's working.

The Park buttons move to the Park location, which is a user defined location you set on Machine Setup -> Head.

Thank you Jason,

Now the homing machine is working fine and the Home button is gray but sometimes when I want homing by clicking on the Home button the head moves to the homing place and after around 30 sec. the message [ Gcode Driver Timeout waiting for response to M114 get position ] appeared . When I checked my [ Detect Firmware ] again I got another error message of error firmware. Each time the problem is resolved after restarting the OpenPNP user interface. In the Find Issues & Solution there was nothing detected.

Is the problem of the Firmware version? Or in the Gcode drive setting  ?

Please send the log. You can see a backup of the 100 past logs in the ~/.openpnp2/log subdirectory.

I don't see anything wrong in the log. The controller just doesn't respond anymore.

Is it an original Smoothieboard?

Do you use an USB isolator?

I guess as soon as this bad clone is really stressed with a rapid sequence of motion commands by OpenPnP, it somehow fails. Maybe some electrical instability. Like I said you could try an USB isolator. Check your machine grounding.

But otherwise, I'll restate, what I said to Fab:

I will not spend my spare time trying to support a board from a manufacturer that is known to be a bad parasite of Open Source projects and uses sup-par components to save a few cents, knowing it will cause problems down the road.

I assume you didn't know when you bought it and you are now a victim too. I'm sorry about this. But please buy one of the products adhering to Open Source principles. These principles are very important to me, they are the only thing that "pay" for my efforts here.

I hope others learn something from it.

Note, I do not completely exclude the possibility that there is a bug in my firmware. But until somebody reports the same bug for a genuine Smoothieboard or another proper Open Source clone, I will not investigate.

That's a counterfeit board, we have *so many* reports of problems from users with these, to the point when I get a user complaining about a weird/unusual issue, the first thing I do nowadays is ask where they got the board...

If you're surprised a counterfeiter is lying to you, you need to look up what counterfeiting means :)

Much like robbers and scammers, they're typically not super honest.

The name is on the board because they just re-used the original files without modifying anything on them, it doesn't mean we had anything to do with them.
