Serial Port Help!

I am having issues with the USB serial ports and need help. I have several gcode drivers all controlling different aspects of my machine and for what ever reason I sometimes get I/O error communicating with port. I used TeraTerm and can talk to the device no problem its when I use open pnp I get an issue. Does open pnp expect a command from the controller other than "ok"? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

In my experience, one needs to set surprisingly large connect wait times. Why that is, I don't know.
