Sorry if this is a repeat but I created a conversation and posted it and it disappeared.

If I try and save configuration I get the following error
openpnp error.png

This is true even if I just open the program and save configuration. As a result I cannot add parts. I came across this https://docs.opulo.io/feeders/5-openpnp-setup/feeder-openpnp-setup/#scanning-for-feeders and set all my feeders to fiducial home but it doesn't matter.

I have tried deleting and restoring parts.xml and reinstalling (updating) openpnp to no effect.

Help!

Hi Brian,
I have a couple of requests:
1. Please can you set the log to TRACE level, trigger the same problem, then send us the log contents
2. Also send your machine.xml and all the other xml files in the same directory.

Tony

I will do that but just now I somehow managed to get it working again by going far enough back in time with parts.xml.

However, it seems that sometimes at least deleting a part causes a hard crash of OpenPnP. This happened a few times before I had my issue and which may have caused it (?). It happened just before I got your message so I will enable trace and reply as requested as soon as it crashes again.

Thanks

I remembered to update OpenPnP to the test branch and check if it works.
1) I can indeed delete a part without causing a crash
2) (minor) copying a part still does not copy the package
3) (a bit more serious) not having a package defined results in 'unable to save configuration' error. I think, at a minimum, errors should direct users (especially newbies such as myself) to a fix so perhaps 'unable to save because no package is defined for xxxx' would be better. Alternatively allow saving but with a placeholder 'no_package_defined'.

Thanks again.

Arrg. I keep replying to myself. Sorry for the spam but I think mentioning the cause and fix might be helpful to all.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the feedback. It is useful to have confirmation about what bugs are fixed, and which are not yet.

2) (minor) copying a part still does not copy the package

Please update again to the latest test build and that should be fixed too.

It was not just the package not getting copied, but the vision settings too. This was a systematic problem, so if anyone else is aware of a similar problem elsewhere then please let me know.

3) (a bit more serious) not having a package defined results in 'unable to save configuration' error. The ugly message was deserved because it was a situation that should not arise. The fix for 2 means you wont be able to get into this situation now.

Thank you for the report.

I am glad I mentioned it then!

Thanks for fixing.
