I am also completing a new type of feeder, but now I have to implement a bus for selective feed of components. 

Like everyone else, I had thought about I2C, even if it creates problems.

But, how do you configure OpenPnP to send an I2C message in case  of imminent  event, for example after a pick, advance the next component of the next feeder?

RS485 (even better CAN bus) is way better for this purpose. If you want, I can help you with controller for these board. 

OpenPNP would use RS232 (uart) to communicate with the feeder controller mcu. Feeders will communicate over CAN with feeder controller. 

Can you share details of our feeder design?

I'm happy to share my project (which is quite innovative, based on what I've usually seen on the community) as soon as I get it up and running on my machine.

this is a photo of the first prototype. It is a simple version with 5 distributors, the final one will occupy the entire surface of the machine, except the space for the pcb to be mounted

Does this mean, that this feeder cannot be used with standard spool?
