Welcome to the OP Weekly Newsletter
We're trying something a little different this week at OP read on to find out more.

Remember that OP is a community-driven initiative so if you've got something you'd like to see at a session, a speaker in mind or maybe you'd like to host one yourself, let us know.  It's a great way to get feedback on an idea, recruit some willing volunteers for your project or just to share something that you feel passionate about.

Thanks for listening

The Grand Swap

21/6/11: Tonight we'll be swapping things!  Bring your unwanted items of any type to trade with other OPers for something of use to you.  Do you have any old clothes, books or other things that you no longer need?  Bring them along and go home with something useful.  Even if you don't have anything physical, perhaps you have some skills you could offer in exchange or maybe a short term loan of something useful.  We'll also be playing a few games to make this evening a bit lively and creative.  Come along!

Thanks for reading!

Open Platform sessions take place most Tuesdays on the 3rd Floor of Bush House (above the Arnolfini), Prince Street, Bristol, BS1 4QD, unless otherwise stated.  We start with a food-share at 6pm while the main event starts at 7pm.

Sustainable Working in the South West – Seminar
Finding Challenge and Purpose in your Work

23/6/11 - Sustainable working is not just about the kind of work we do but whether it engages and/or matters to us personally. Meaningful work is hard to find when faced with the current environment of:
  • Ever increasing job insecurity due to the speed of change and competitiveness of the business world
  • Greater stress as more work is required to be done by fewer people in shorter timescales
  • Reduced fulfillment as work becomes increasingly specialised and its contribution to society becomes less obvious and therefore less meaningful
We do, however, have choices but these have to be managed thoughtfully and with proper respect for all involved (including you). Within the framework of sustainable living, characterised by its emphasis on quality, relationship and curiosity, this exploratory workshop will look at what’s possible including:
  • Developing win/win solutions in your workplace, sector and region
  • Aligning your work with your values
  • Planning ahead: developing a Plan B
  • Developing a business idea in the company of like-minded others
Date & Time: 5.45 to 9.00 pm Thursday 23 June
Venue: St. Nicholas House, 31-34 High Street, Bristol BS1 2AW
Cost: £25
