Hi all, if you have some listening time, I highly recommend checking out the presentation that Dr. Louise Seamster, University of Iowa, gave to the Joint Task Force On Student Success for Underrepresented Students in Higher Education yesterday. She set everyone’s hair on fire about the connection between student debt and racial wealth disparities. And if you fast forward to 1:43 you can hear testimony about affordability from two outstanding students, Juanita Dominguez, University of Oregon, and Jace Bullock, Portland Community College. Enjoy! Several Oregonians were involved in the newly published The OER Starter Kit for Program Managers. Stefanie Buck, Oregon State University, is a coauthor; Dawn Lowe-Wincentsen wrote a case study about her work at Oregon Institute of Technology; and I wrote a case study about student savings data.
Phoebe and I published a post on how Oregon successfully applied for federal OER grant funding: Replicable Federal OER Grant Proposal Model. Thanks to all the folks who contributed to the proposal writing process back in Fall 2020!

The call for proposals for the 2022 Open Education Conference is now open. Open Oregon Educational Resources will be sponsoring registration for this virtual event, taking place Oct 17-20, 2022. Submission deadline is May 27.
The call for proposals for Open Texas 2022 closes June 1. The conference will be held virtually on September 21-23, 2022.

The University of Wyoming Libraries launched the Journal of Open Educational Resources in Higher Education (JOERHE), a new, scholarly, open access, open peer-reviewed journal. Submissions for the first issue are due June 15.
Communications in Information Literacy (CIL) seeks submissions for a theme issue on the connections between information literacy and open educational practices. Submission deadline is December 15, 2022.

Summer OER opportunities:
Community College OER Grant Proposals are due July 11. University faculty are welcome to join grant projects, but the grant lead must be affiliated with an Oregon community college because of the funding source. I’m hosting a Grant Proposal Q&A June 8, 10-11.
Equity and Open Education Faculty Cohort Registration is due June 20. Receive a stipend for doing one or two parts of this two-month training. If you’ve already completed Part 1, you do not need to re-register in order to be invited to Part 2 - I’ll email you in August.
Register for Virtual OER Review Workshops: July 19, 12-1, July 20, 6-7, and July 21, 12-1. After the workshop, participants have an opportunity to write a review of an OER for $200 or $300.

The Oregon Student Tribal Grant was announced. This grant will cover the cost of attendance, which includes books and supplies. More info about student grants in general is available via OSAC.
The School of Business at PSU is launching a zero-textbook-cost pathway for Business Technology & Analytics students who are ready to begin 300 level courses. They are reserving seats in this pilot program for new community college transfer students.

Wiki Education is currently accepting submissions to run a Wikipedia assignment for the Fall 2022 term. Submit your course page by July 29 by creating an account and following the instructions to complete the Orientation for New Instructors.

Communications in Information Literacy (CIL) seeks submissions for a theme issue on the connections between information literacy and open educational practices. Submission deadline is December 15, 2022.
OER-related job opportunities
Open Oregon Educational Resources seeks an Open Education Instructional Technologist to work remotely on a contract basis to provide technical support services in developing openly licensed course materials.
