Student advocacy opportunities: The Oregon Student Association (OSA) is working on a bill to support student needs in the upcoming 2024 short session in Oregon. Here’s how students can get involved right now.

Ask your institution’s student government to endorse this bill. They can sign on with the OSA’s endorsement form.
Share the signup form to join OSA for Legislative Days on January 10th and 11th. Students can show support by lobbying in the Capitol Building anytime during those two days and by attending the House Higher Education Committee informational hearing for this bill on Thursday, January 11th from 2:30 - 5 PM. T-shirts and signs will be provided by OSA.

Hi all, do you teach courses in Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Human Development/Family Studies? We are offering stipends for instructors to pilot the OER we’ve developed through our federal grant. - Amy

Support student needs by advocating for HB 4162! The Student Emergency Needs Package is a bipartisan, student-centered effort to support Oregon’s Basic Needs Navigators and Textbook Affordability Program with $6 million dollars in one-time, emergency funding. Ways to help:

Testify in support of HB 4162 at the House Higher Education Committee hearing on February 8, 3-4:30. More information on in-person, remote, and written testimony.
Send email to legislative leadership and the Ways & Means co-chairs. The Oregon Student Association created templates that can be used by students, faculty/staff, and community members.
