Howdy everyone,
We are excited to share that two new open textbooks, Writing and Rhetoric: First Semester Composition and Writing and Rhetoric: Second Semester Composition, are now available in the Texas A&M University Systems' Open Digital Publishing Catalog.
Developed for the ENGL 1301 (Composition I) and ENGL 1302 (Composition II) course sequence, these open textbooks guide students through the progression from personal expression to academic inquiry and argumentation. Together, the courses introduce research-driven writing, rhetorical analysis, critical thinking, and evidence-based communication while helping students develop the analytical, research, and academic writing skills needed for both college and professional contexts. Beginning with inquiry, exploration, and synthesis in ENGL 1301 and advancing toward research methodologies and argumentative academic writing in ENGL 1302, the sequence provides a scaffolded approach to first-year composition and rhetoric instruction. These books are part of the D2S2 (Digital Design for Student Success) Initiative, a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board effort to create free, open-access course materials.
Please check out the book spolight cards and feel free to share widely!
Best, Seyed --
