Open Oregon Educational Resources seeks three OER Development Consultants to work remotely on a contract basis to provide editorial and project management support to instructors developing openly licensed courses and textbooks. Each contract will run from January 16, 2023 through June 30, 2024. Each contract will not exceed $45,000.
Open Oregon Educational Resources received one-time funding to develop openly licensed, subject-specific targeted pathway materials with an equity lens. We work with faculty in three disciplines, Human Development/Family Studies, Sociology, and Criminal Justice, to develop 13 openly licensed textbooks and about 75 course pilots that each produce openly licensed course materials.
Each OER Development Consultant will support 3-5 projects by working closely with the lead author and/or revising author. We estimate up to 60 hours of support total per quarter, per project, at $50 per hour.
OER Development Consultants will work with the Statewide Open Education Program Director, the Statewide Open Education Instructional Designer, the Statewide Open Education Grant Project Manager, the Open Education Instructional Technologist, and Chemeketa Press personnel to assist authors with the following support, which may vary by project.
Connect authors to project training materials and support roles
Help authors conceptualize the work that will get them to each on-time deliverable (e.g. break down their work into manageable steps, organize their time and meet deadlines)
Meet with authors regularly via zoom to keep the project on track and provide 1:1 support
Provide status updates to the project team, primarily through the Grant Project Manager
Consult with members of the project leadership team as needed
Make editorial decisions to support the prioritization of authors’ work at various stages of the manuscript development process
Support authors to
prepare manuscript during developmental edit process in Google Docs
implement editorial feedback from Chemeketa Press personnel
revise manuscript after first pilots based on Manuscript Revision Plan (created by Chemeketa Press personnel from peer review and student feedback)
Support authors in identifying and completing steps for incorporating accessibility and writing attributions/citations
Identify opportunities for student interaction and engagement in Pressbooks
In coordination with instructional designers, support authors in creating learning objects in textbook chapters, including activities, discussion questions, H5P, reflection/journal prompts, etc.
Coordinate with Grant Project Manager and authors to define, request and facilitate development of media for text/course materials
Support course material alignment with revised textbook
Support author in resolving accessibility or licensing issues in the course packs
Demonstrated skill in providing consultations and support for instructors in higher education
Familiarity with Creative Commons and open licensing practices
Experience managing files in diverse formats across multiple online platforms
Proficiency with equity-minded instructional design strategies, including open pedagogy, Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT)
Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds and levels of familiarity with OER
Comfort in navigating complex organizational relationships
Ability to adapt to changing priorities
Strong communication skills
Training or experience in instructional design
Training or experience in editing or publishing
Content knowledge of Criminal Justice, Sociology, and/or Human Development/Family Studies
Familiarity with Pressbooks and H5P
Bilingual in English and Spanish
