  • Registration is open for the virtual Open Education Network Summit, July 25-28. This event is free for everyone at Oregon’s 24 public colleges and universities via our consortial OEN membership. 

  • Wiki Education is currently accepting submissions to run a Wikipedia assignment for the Fall 2022 term. Submit your course page by July 29 by creating an account and following the instructions to complete the Orientation for New Instructors.

  • Nominations for OEGlobal’s Awards for Excellence are due July 31.

  • Registration is open for the New England Board of Higher Education’s Open Education Leadership Summit, taking place in person and virtually August 2.

  • The Open Education Network is accepting applications for faculty and librarian partners to receive a certification for open educational practices. Applications due August 5.

  • Registration is open for Open Texas 2022, a free, virtual OER conference September 21-23.

  • Registration is open for the Creative Commons Certificate program. Oregonians are eligible for a 15% discount through our regional compact. The next online course starts September 26; registration closes September 19th. 

  • Registration is open for Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Professional Program in Open Education. There is no deadline; registration will remain open until seats are filled. The first course begins on September 19. 

  • Registration is open for WCET, in person in Denver Oct 19-21. This is a digital learning conference and there are two OER-related sessions on the program. Early bird pricing ends on July 14.


Calls for proposals in the open education field

  • Kennesaw State University Libraries seeks proposals for presentations at their Open Access Week 2022 celebration, which takes place virtually October 24-28. Proposals are due August 15. 

  • Communications in Information Literacy (CIL) seeks submissions for a theme issue on the connections between information literacy and open educational practices. Submission deadline is December 15, 2022.


OER-related job opportunities

  • Open Oregon Educational Resources seeks an Open Education Instructional Technologist to work remotely on a contract basis to provide technical support services in developing openly licensed course materials. The contract will run from September 1, 2022 through August 30, 2024 and will not exceed $60,000. Please submit a cover letter, quote, and resume by July 30, 2022, to hof...@linnbenton.edu.

  • Not that I want anyone to leave Oregon, but Virginia Tech is offering up to six (6) entry-level resident librarian positions to recent graduates of a master’s degree program or entry-level library, data, or information professionals; one of the strategic areas is open ed. Review date is July 11.

  • Again, not that I want anyone to leave Oregon, but Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is hiring an Open Educational Resources & Scholarly Communications Librarian. Applications are due July 15.

  • Once again, not that I want anyone to leave Oregon, but Virginia Commonwealth University is hiring a Head of Digital Libraries and Publishing position that includes OER. Applications are due July 31. 

  • As I said, please don’t leave Oregon, but the Idaho State Board of Education is seeking applications for an Associate Academic Officer. This position oversees all OER and Open Education-related work for the state's public higher education institutions. Applications are due July 31.

Hi all, Alex Jordan, an OER champion at PCC and one of the very first statewide OER grant recipients, shared a blog post that will be of interest to other math instructors: PreTeXt Runestone Workshop. Alex writes: “PreTeXt is a language for writing an open textbook, and Runestone is a place where open books (written using PreTeXt) can be hosted and let instructors track student progress. Runestone is an official nonprofit. All code for both projects is open.” FYI, Amy

          Hi all, I have two noteworthy items to highlight this week:


          First, the good news: Open Oregon Educational Resources seeks two instructional designers to work remotely on a contract basis to provide course design support to instructors developing openly licensed course materials. Proposals are due August 28.


          And the bad news that hopefully doesn’t affect too many people: Anyone using a pressbooks.com account will see changes starting September 29 (more information from Pressbooks). Let me know if you would like to migrate content into Open Oregon Educational Resources's Pressbooks network at no cost to you.
