Dear OpenOlat community

Some weeks ago we released OpenOlat 20.3. The OpenOlat 20.3 release is an iterative evolution of the 20.x release series. It includes also several important security improvements, thus we recommend updating to the newest 20.3.x release as soon as possible.

The most important highlights are: 
  • Widgets
    • New Overview Widget in the Course Planner showing active implementations with configurable metrics
    • New Event Widget in the Coaching Tool listing upcoming dates
    • New Calendar Widget in Coaching Tool and Course Planner with color coded highlighting
    • Widgets can be freely arranged, shown or hidden
  • Content Editor
    • Import of Markdown files with automatic conversion into structured page blocks
    • Images from Markdown imports integrated into the Media Center including duplicate check
    • Support for SVG graphics in Media Center and Content Editor
  • AI features
    • Redesign of the AI module with multi-provider support for OpenAI, Anthropic and any OpenAI API compatible service such as Ollama or vLLM
    • Per-function configuration of provider and model
    • Automatic generation of image metadata on upload to the Media Center
    • Improved automatic generation of multiple choice questions, now in any language
  • Course Planner - Master Import
    • New central feature for managing implementations via structured Excel files
    • Create or update implementations, dates and memberships in a single step
    • Import of products, implementations, courses, dates, participants and users
  • Course Planner - further improvements
    • Participants can accept or decline memberships on their own
    • Offers can be scheduled to run during specific time periods
    • Enhanced access permissions and report access for additional roles
    • New Activity Log in the Certificate Program
  • SEO and page preview
    • Improved discoverability of public course and information pages
    • Attractive automatic previews when sharing links on social media and messaging services
    • Individual keywords per page or learning resource
  • Layout refresh
    • Subtle animations on mouse interactions
    • Redesigned, smoother transition of background images on the login page
    • Visually modernized login screen
  • Tests, e-Assessment and Safe Exam Browser
    • Simplified status display in tests
    • Number of attempts visible directly next to each question
    • Custom SEB configuration templates per exam
  • Video
    • Default resolution for video transcoding now 1080p
    • Support for external transcoding service with different service queues
    • Automatic generation of video subtitles (Part of Frentix Cloud Service)
  • User management
    • Invitation links can be disabled
    • Password reset process optimized to comply with data protection regulations
  • Project tool
    • Personal filters can now be saved
    • Files can be referenced directly via external link
  • Various
    • New "Relevant" filter and sorting by time period for course members
    • Author and owner filters now support searching by email address
    • Improved accessibility for tab navigation and date pickers
    • Internal security audit with targeted improvements
    • Major library updates

OpenOlat 20.3 is the best and most secure OpenOlat release yet and we recommend installing it as soon as possible for all OpenOlat users.
