Hi ,  we are still trying to figure out how to upgrade our old version of OLAT  (version 12) most efficiently.  For various reason we would prefer simply installing version 15 (our target, which I know is also not the most recent) fresh, and then using a series of exports to move the course content and users to the new environment.   Is this a viable strategy?

Thanks for this forum!

Hi

I would not recommend setting up OpenOlat 15 as a new productive system at all. It has known bugs and issues including security issues that will put your entire system and user data data at risk.

Theoretically exporting courses from OpenOlat 12 and importing them to OpenOlat 15 should work. Be aware that when importing courses that share the same resources (e.g. a test), those resources will be imported multiple times. This has been addressed in later releases.

Have a look at OpenOlat 20 or at least 19.1 as an alternative. Those are the most recent stable and secure releases.

Cheers
Florian

Thanks for responding Florian.  Another factor we have to consider is we have custom Dutch translations we did for  version 12.  If we have these in the form of an NL.properties file, will that work with later versions?

Hi Paul

Yes, you will just have many untranslated new things…

We would encourage you becoming the official contributor / translator for Dutch. We operate a translation server for our translator community. This way you never have to worry about missing translations.

Let me know if you are interested in this.

Cheers
Florian
