Hi.

I see there are 64-bit OpenNI and NITE libs for Linux, but only 32-bit
for Windows.

Are they working fine on 64-bit Windows (in 32-bit compatibility
mode)?

Also, any plans for 64-bit optimized libraries?

Thanks.

You can run them in 32-bit mode on 64-bit Windows. However, you can build a 64-bit application using these libraries. As far as I know, there is no 64-bit version of OpenNI.

I just setup the official drivers and OpenNI/NITE on a Windows Vista
64 machine it works fine. Note that even though that machine has Intel
CPU, the driver installer decided to install the drivers tagged amd64,
but everything works fine otherwise. However, you will probably miss
some of the optimizations available for amd64 chipsets if you are
using Intel.

Let me add to what Jotto said. OpenNI/NITE works fine in 32-bit mode
on a 64-bit OS, but the drivers must be 64 bit.

Hi gamix!

'Amd64' is the platform name that Microsoft choose to call x86 based
64-bit platforms in their WDK (Windows Drivers Kit).
It works just as well for both AMD and Intel based CPU and there is no
performance hit at all...

Thanks,
Ziv.

You are correct.
OpenNI provides both 32-bit and 64-bit native drivers.

Thanks,
Ziv.

Thanks for clarifications.

The unstable version of OpenNI/NITE + Kinect PSDK worked fine, but I
do have some horizontal lines in NITE samples + crashes.

On the other hand, FAAST and Sindbad demo works just fine.

Perhaps the examples were not fully tested on Win 64?

Yeah, thanks for pointing out that detail!

Will a 64-bit version of OpenNI and NITE be available? It would be nice to be able to use it in 64-bit applications.

Yes, it will be available in the future...
