Any1 know what is the "actual" possible minimum depth range?
the website say 85cm but online sources say it is capable up to
30-50cm?

refer to omnitouch paper, they are using the primesense psdk (i
think), and they are able to detect up to object as near as 20cm.

and any1 can confirm that, with nyko zoom, kinect minimum range can be
shorten to about 35cm?

anyway, how to buy xtion pro live in korea? buy it in newegg usa and
forward mail to korea?

thanks alot

Hi,

My Xtion Pro Live can see as close as 0.5m. It is unofficial, but it's
for your reference.

Bernie

thanks alot

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
But even the old kinect can detect as close as 0.5m, so thats nothing
special.
I need a nearer range, like around 30cm.
I wonder if Nyko zoom really can help.
else I need to get the 500usd depthsense camera by softkinetic

Mine Xtion works down to 52-53cm. If I manage to prop the Nykos Zoom in
front of it properly, it drops down to 27cm; quite an improvement.

Note these are actual physically measured distances from the front of
the Xtion lens, not from the front of the Zoom; so your actual physical
working distance is a bit less (2.25cm).

For reference, one of my Kinects goes down to 44cm, 32cm with the Zoom.

So the Xtion actually goes closer with the Zoom, even though it's worse
without it. Also, the Xtion makes a better, less noisy depth image
through the Zoom than the Kinect if you get the Zoom adjusted just
right. Both of them do vignette through the Zoom, although you do still
wind up with a wider field of view.

These tests were done in average nighttime room lighting (tungsten).

One interesting thing is that both cameras take a while to figure out
the depth image, maybe up to 30-40 seconds after it's started sending
data where it's almost all black. Some kind of calibration must be
going on that adapts to the lens.

Good luck!

Hi,

I'm Inness in charge of Xtion PRO LIVE in Korea.

Thank you or your interest in our product.

I already sent e-mail to <tcboy...@gmail.com>, but write in here
again.

Our minimun depth range is 0.8m, and maximum is 3.5m.

So, if user leave at least 80cm in front of Xtion PRO LIVE, then Xton
PRO LIVE can cognize user's motion.

I'm sorry that I can not make sure what is the minimun range of
kinect.

I think giving a question to MS directly would be more help for this
question.
