Dear all,

I have recently bought a Xtion Pro but cannot get the device to work
on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop (Intel core i7). The device works fine
on my old laptop running Windows Vista 32 bit. I have previously
successfully used the Kinect on this laptop (which was another
challenge).

I have removed all previous software from PrimeSense, OpenNI and then
installed the software bundled with the Asus hardware.

After installation I then tried to run the sample NiViewer.exe, this
failed.

I then looked in device manager and found there was an entry for
PrimeSense PS1080, with a warning triangle, the message "This device
cannot start. (Code 10)".

I then tried rebooting the machine - still no luck, then confirmed the
laptops power settings were set to performance which they were.

The next thing I thought to try was installing the latest software
from the Asus website, still no luck.

I then thought for a moment maybe there is not enough power getting to
the device (even though USB2.0 external hard drives work fine), so I
purchased a powered hub and again this did not work. My usb ports are
USB3.0

I would like to know if anyone else has got Xtion Pro to work on
Windows 7 64bit and whether this was out of the box or with a
different device driver or if anyone has any suggestions on what else
I might try.

Thank you for your time reading this.

Best regards
Biz

Hello Biz,

There are two suspects I have.

First, The "Code 10" error means that driver manager can't detect the
device. It means that the device wasn't plugged correctly or the USB
driver was corrupted. I advise you to check followings.
1. Remove all the older version of NITE and OpenNI on the laptop.
Remove first the NITE and Sensor components, then OpenNI.
2. Reboot the laptop
3. Re-install the SW Package(Windows7 64bit)

Second, USB 3.0. Please try with USB 2,0 port.

Best Regards,
BH Ahn

Hi BH,
Many thanks for your reply.  I had tried your first suggestion
numerous times.  However, your second suggestion, of using a USB 2.0,
well I thought all my ports were USB 3.0 then read the technical spec
and the eSATA port also doubles up as USB 2.0 port.  Tried it in there
- Bingo! It worked.  I will make PrimeSense and ASUS aware of this.
Thank you.

Hi Biz!
We are already aware of the USB3.0 port issue with a NEC/Renesas
controller.
It will be fixed on a future PrimeSense firmware.
Thanks,
Ziv.

Hi
I have the same issue using usb 3.0. Is there any news about the firmware?
The scanner works fine on another computer with USB 2.0

Thanks

Same problem.
Xtion refuses to work on Retina Macbook Pro with a Win7 64bits on bootcamp.
Any quick fix for that?

Thanks.

Just another data point:

Same problem here under Win7 x64 Enterprise with the USB3 ports on a Gigabyte GA-P67X-UD3-B3 motherboard.  Device fails installation when plugged in.  Works fine on all the motherboard USB2 ports.

Ciao!

same problem. ASUS G75V Notebook with 4xUSB3 ports! Win7 64bit.

Always get this boaring "This device

cannot start. (Code 10)".

I've tried near everything, to convert a USB3 to USB2 by raising from 5.5Ohm to 10 Ohm, didn't work.
Converters from Mini Display to USB didn't found anything..
no Software for emulating USB2 on USB3 ports.

sooo please find a firmware solution for this xtion pro to usb3 with windows.

thanks to all helping find a solution

.. at least it's asus on a asus notebook that don't works!

Hi, guys,

Just check with Asus. The new firmware that would fix this USB3 issue will be available on their website soon.

found another link for linux users:

or

If you have a eSATA combo port on the side, you can plug in your kinect there (the USB plug fits in the eSATA combo), which was the only working solution I found.

I'll try with live ubuntu cd...maybe this works now with verison 12.

still waiting ....
