Hi ONL’s,

Are SNMPv2-MIB::coldStart trap, and UCD-SNMP-MIB::ucdShutDown trap enabled on ONL based system by default?

I cannot find these mibs under /usr/share/snmp/mibs.

What should be done to enable them except of adding the mibs?

Thanks,

Hadas

Does anyone have some knowledge/background with this issue?

It’s quite urgent for us.

Thanks in Advance!

Hadas,

The net-snmp agent should send these traps to trap sinks configured in /etc/snmpd.conf regardless of whether the MIB files are present.
If you add a trap sink to the config file you should see the traps -- is this no happening for you?

Hi Jeff,

I have configured trap sinks in /etc/snmpd.conf file and I can see coldStart trap on manager, but:

-          coldTrap trap is been generated only when implicitly restarting snmpd service (‘service snmpd restart’) and not when restarting the whole host (which is also triggering service restart, isn’t it?). Is it expected? When should the agent generate this trap?

-          ucdShutDown is not been received - not when stopping the snmpd service and not when shutting the host down.

I assume that trapsink is well defined in snmpd.conf file and manager is configured to receive the traps (I can see the coldStart trap and the traps sent using the ‘snmptrap’ linux command). Am I missing anything else?

Thanks in advance!

Hadas

From http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/docs/mibs/snmpMIB.html

"A coldStart trap signifies that the SNMP entity, supporting a notification originator application, is reinitializing itself and that its configuration may have been altered."

Regarding ucdShutDown, it is defined in the UCD-SNMP-MIB. Did you load that MIB in your trap receiver? Did you check with tcpdump whether your system is sending the trap or not?

UCD-SNMP-MIB is loaded on trap receiver, and tcpdump does not show that trap....
