Hi,
I am facing an issue while installing ofdpa-i.12.1.1_12.1.1+accton1.7-1_amd64.deb on RedstoneXP D2060  celestica switch

I have brought up ONL on RedstoneXP D2060 Celestica switch version "ONL-2.0.0-ONL-OS-DEB8-2016-09-04.1726-3f30495-AMD64-SWI-INSTALLER" from https://www.opennetlinux.org/binaries/

so while performing following step,
dpkg -i --force-overwrite /mnt/flash2/ofdpa-i.12.1.1_12.1.1+accton1.7-1_amd64.deb

ONL is throughing an error
root@localhost:~# dpkg -i --force-overwrite /mnt/flash2/ofdpa-i.12.1.1_12.1.1+accton1.7-1_amd64.deb
(Reading database ... 14986 files and directories currently installed.)2.1.1_12.1
Preparing to replace ofdpa-i.12.1.1 12.1.1+accton1.7-1 (using .../ofdpa-i.12.1.1_12.1.1+accton1.7-1_amd64.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement ofdpa-i.12.1.1 ...
Setting up ofdpa-i.12.1.1 (12.1.1+accton1.7-1) ...
cat: /etc/onl_platform: No such file or directory
Failed: OFDPA is not supported for platform
dpkg: error processing ofdpa-i.12.1.1 (--install):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing: ofdpa-i.12.1.1

can some one point out what could have been the reason?, is /etc/onl_platform should be specific to platform which should be supported by ONL?

Thanks in advance,
Babu

Hi Babu,

The accton ofdpa binaries will not work on the Celestica box.

If this was an accton box, the quick fix would be to copy /etc/onl/platform over to /etc/onl_platform and try the install again. In onl 2 we moved the files into their own directory.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the response,
I did try the below link too after posting here.

a.       From the GIT hub of OFDPA  found an OFDPA Debian package for Cel_x86_64 version

https://github.com/Broadcom-Switch/of-dpa/tree/master/bin/cel_x86_64-trident2-ub12

tried to install on ONL Debian 8 then it through an error of miss matched kernel version

# dpkg -i --force-overwrite /mnt/flash2/ofdpa-redstone-xp_0.2.

can you point me for the required ONL version which supports linux 3.5.0-23 or OFDPA which is 3.2.65 version or any other mechanism to work with RedstoneXP D2060 fabric

Thanks,

Babu

Hi Babu,

I put some files up at http://opennetlinux.org/binaries/ofdpa

One is just the kernel modules, the other is the kernel modules + ofdpa binary/library for the Celestica box.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi Again Babu,

I was finally able to compile both 2.0.4.0 and 3.0.2.0 for the celstica box:

ofdpa-redstone-xp_2.0.4.0_amd64.deb
ofdpa-redstone-xp_3.0.2.0_amd64.deb

http://opennetlinux.org/binaries/ofdpa

Let me know if this works for you.

Hi Nandan,

Do you have access to the odp (source) of ofdpa from broadcom? If so I can give you a general walk through. It is very similar to building opennsl.

Hi Steve,

I have the downloaded of-dpa source from the git master branch. I have read through $OFDPA_ROOT/doc/html/OFDPA_BUILDING.html explanation of building the of-dpa source, it doesn't say anything about building a deb package. I'll go through the opennsl building steps and will follow them for of-dpa.

Hi Nandan,

The github code is only the public part of ofdpa, you should be able to recompile the kernel modules but that is all I believe.

To compile ofdpa proper you need to get the source from broadcom. To make a package, go into the output directory and the sub directory of the system you want to build. The command you use to create a package is "make package".

Hi Babu,

Did it install the files anyway? The version thing caught me out earlier, I am missing the way to set that. The kernel requirements seem to be hard coded in. I would need to edit the package to fix it.

If it installed the files, you should be able to start it as the kernel modules are compiled for onl.

As per the logs it didn't proceed during unpacking itself, , is it Unpacking ofdpa-redstone-xp (0.0.0.0) over (0.0.0.0) ... could create problem?

Thanks,

Hi Babu,

I rebuilt the package to not require the kernel or redstone-xp

Hi Steve,
will work for Celestica switch, since I am finding difficult to verify the Testing as per "hardware conformance openflow test"
and alos in the Readme mentioned that "At this moment the switches supported are Accton switches. For more information abot that check the wiki page at wiki.opencord.org"

any inputs on this would help us.

Thanks,

Hi Steven,
I need to build the Ofdpa 3.0 for celstica box, i followed the link mentioned here

http://opennetlinux.org/binaries/ofdpa  but ofdpa 3.0 deb package not found.

Can you help me in building this package or provide some info to get started with it.

Hi,

What Celestica box is it?

We would need to ask Celestica to build ofdpa as I do not have the necessary configuration files for their boxes.

Hello Steven,
Thanks for your quick reply, it's same RedstoneXP D2060 Celestica switch for which you had helped to build of-dpa 2.0. Now we would like to build for of-dpa 3.0 version and put it in Celestica switch for CORD 2.0.

Hi,

What kernel is on the box you need this for? I located the celstica files.

Hi,

I have enough information, just struggling to compile the latest ofdpa on the 3.16 kernel. OF-DPA does not like post uefi kernels. I hope to have something tomorrow.

Hi Sachidananda,

Compiling OF-DPA 3.0 against a kernel with UAPI split (post 3.7) is not working and we are using the 3.16 kernel for all x86 systems now.  I am able to compile OpenNSL for the same box against 3.16 so I suspect it is something in how OF-DPA is designed.  I have someone looking into it with me but I am unsure when we will have a solution.

Thanks a lot Steven for your effort, i am just summarizing your statement and want to know about some clarification regarding this.

> I just collected info about openNSL, is openNSL is like OFDPA for controlling broadcom switch ?
> As you have last time build OFDPA2.0 for ONL having kernel version 3.2.6 (Which is currently in our hardware), so OFDPA2.0 works fine with kernel 3.2 version.
> But any way with OFDPA 3.0 is not working with kernel version 3.7 as you informed so you have all the boxes now with 3.16 kernel.
> As you have mentioned explicitly openNSL is compiled successfully with ONL with kernel version 3.16, Can you conform about OFDPA 3.0 is not compiling with kernel version 3.16. As you mean to say OFDPA3.0 design change  may creating problem wit kernel 3.16 ?

Is my understanding is correct ?
