Dear open energy and transport modellers,

I am proud to present to you the beta-version of an open source transport model for the region of Germany: https://github.com/marlinarnz/quetzal_germany

In fact, it is the first macroscopic transport model on a national scale that has ever been open sourced. I attached the paper that descibes the model methodology (classical 4-step approach of macroscopic transport modelling) and some background.

So far, it misses some transport modes and lacks accuracy in some areas, which will be tackeled within the next weeks. Then, the aim is to publish an open dataset for German passenger transport at NUTS3-level resolution for the calibration year 2017. Once that is achieved, the model shall be coupled to an energy system model in order to investigate realistic, behaviour-driven scenarios for transport sector decarbonisation.

Now a question to you: Do you know a versatile open source model that depicts car purchase behaviour? For coupling with the energy system model, it would be very interesting to have insight into people's drivetrain purchase choices.

Cheers

Marlin
