Hi openmod community,

TL;DR: The next openmod workshop will take place at IIASA (Vienna/Laxenburg, Austria) on March 22-24, register at https://forms.office.com/e/f1eTWJ7Bhe if you want to participate!

**

The organizing committee for the next openmod workshop invites you to attend the upcoming meeting in Vienna/Laxenburg hosted by the IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment program.

The event is organized jointly with a capacity-building & training event supported by the Horizon 2020 projects ECEMF, NAVIGATE and ENGAGE. The first day (Wednesday, March 22) will consist of several sessions on modelling, tools and best-practice-examples of scenario analysis.

The second and third days (Thursday/Friday, March 23/24) will follow the usual structure of openmod workshops, featuring lightning talks, a poster session, and several break-out sessions for do-a-thons.

With this schedule, we hope the workshop will be interesting and relevant for the broader openmod & energy modelling community. Participation in the capacity-building sessions is optional. We will provide broadcasting options (via Zoom) for the capacity-building sessions and the plenary sessions, but the event is intended primarily as an in-person meeting.

The IIASA Energy, Climate, and Environment program (ECE) will financially support the workshop, so that we do not need to collect a registration fee. We will be able to welcome up to 50 participants. We ask anyone interested to participate in the capacity-building sessions and/or openmod workshop to register until Monday January 29, 9am, at https://forms.office.com/e/f1eTWJ7Bhe. If more than 50 colleagues express interest to participate, we will allocate slots ensuring a broad representation of research groups, geographical regions, and research interests.  In order to broaden the audience of the workshop, we will reserve 15 seats for first-time participants, that is, people who have never participated in an openmod workshop before.

Over the next weeks, we will initiate a process to propose topics for do-a-thons via the forum.

Outline of the proposed agenda:

Capacity-building and training day - Wednesday, March 22:
- 10am - 6pm: several parallel sessions
The capacity-building sessions are financially supported by the H2020 projects ECEMF, ENGAGE & NAVIGATE.

Openmod Workshop (Day 1) - Thursday, March 23:
- 10am - 5:30pm: lightning talks, poster session & break-out groups for do-a-thons
- evening: social event

Openmod Workshop (Day 2) - Friday, March 24:
- 9:30am - 12:30pm: lightning talks & closing plenary
- rooms for continuing work in break-out groups will be available in the afternoon

Looking forward to welcoming you soon at IIASA!

On behalf of the organizing committee,
Daniel

Hi openmod community,

Following up on my invitation to register for the upcoming openmod workshop…

Robbie Morrison was so kind to set up topics/pages in the openmod forum for proposing lightning talks, posters and break-out groups (aka do-a-thons). I also created a page with logistical details (agenda, transport, meals, hotels).

Please visit https://forum.openmod.org/tag/vienna-2023/l/latest (and create an account for the forum if you don’t have one yet and want to participate in the workshop).

Best,
Daniel
