Hello all

The following document (in German) is intended to offer Energiewende policy guidance to the incoming German federal government (while noting that coalition talks are still in progress) plus coverage in Die Zeit newspaper:

Tom Brown and Berit Erlach contributed to the study.  Overarching messages include:

  • acknowledge complexity
  • treat problem as integrated and highly cross-sectoral, invoking mobility, the built environment, workplace practices, industry, and so on
  • level with the public regarding scale and rate of change

Not so common for these themes to be highlighted as primary in a policy context.

Also worth observing that German industry is, by and large, completely committed to rapid decarbonization these days.  Also quite a paradigm shift.

with best wishes, Robbie

Hello all

The official english translation of this discussion paper was released this morning. If looking for a readable and well-illustrated description of the German energiewende, this might well fit?  The citation:

The contained analysis and recommendations required agreement by all three supporting scientific bodies — so this document represents a middle ground in some sense. It was also prepared before the new traffic light coalition government had formed — which is more strongly committed to a net‑zero‑carbon future and accompanying technical transformations than other electoral outcomes might have provided? For instance, the new official ambitions for PV uptake are on the upper bound of those found in published studies.

with best wishes, Robbie
