Dear openmod community,

After highlighting the technical details of system and network planning in June, we are now continuing our series! I am very pleased to invite you to the second thematic deep-dive of our series, titled "Presentation of Open-Source Tools for Heat Planning [3/4]" (Vorstellung von Open-Source-Tools für die Wärmeplanung [3/4]).

In this two-hour workshop on Wednesday, July 15th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, we will focus entirely on the district level — the heart of municipal heat transition. We will show you how to use open-source tools to digitally map neighborhoods, plan heating networks economically, and keep an eye on sustainability alongside costs.

📢 Please note: The event will be held in German.

Which tools will be in the spotlight?

This time, we are taking the time for detailed presentations and live demonstrations of the following three tools:

🏠 Quartiersgenerator – Demand Assessment & Modeling

How much heat does a neighborhood really need? The Quartiersgenerator supports you in digitally capturing building stocks, creating building-specific load profiles, and evaluating energy supply concepts for neighborhoods. It provides a sound data foundation for the early planning of sustainable neighborhood solutions.

⚙️ Sophena – Planning of Heating Plants & Local Heat

Sophena is a specialized tool for the technical and economic design of local heating networks and heating plants. We will show you how to compare different scenarios and ensure the economic viability of your heat supply.

🌍 LAEND – Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

Sustainability is more than just saving CO2 during operation. With the LAEND model (Life cycle assessment based energy decision support), energy systems can be optimized across their entire life cycle regarding costs and environmental impacts—from manufacturing to decommissioning.

This event provides an excellent opportunity to get direct insights into the user interfaces and features, and to ask your questions directly to the development and expert teams.

 Overview of the Remaining Date:

Please also feel free to save the date for our final main focus session:

  • August 13th (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM): Focus: International Standards & Practice (DHAT, SubWW & Best Practice) – Registration

Please feel free to forward this invitation to any interested colleagues.

We look forward to your participation and to engaging in deeper discussions with you!

Best regards,
