Dear Colleagues,

For collegial info some groovy new papers using open source models from around the world:
  1. Energetic Sustainable Transition Process Optimization in Terms of LCA Using CLEWs Tools (paper 1 attached).
  2. An open-source model of a Brewery (paper 2 attached).
  3. Modelling net-zero in Morocco (https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-2579435/v1)
  4. To go optimal in Togo's electricity system (https://ejournal.undip.ac.id/index.php/ijred/article/view/50104)*
  5. Coal to clean in Mauritius (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2211467X23000184)**
Of particular interest - if you are looking for a workflow to design a zero-order energy transition model Starter Data Kit check this one out: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.mex.2023.102120
• The methodology presented here is intended to encourage practitioners to apply it to new countries and expand the current Starter Data Kits library.
• It is a novel process that creates data pipelines that feed into a single Data Collection and Manipulation Tool (DaCoMaTool).
• It allows for tool-agnostic data creation in a consistent format ready for a modelling analysis using one of the available tools.

Best, Mark

* Of note is that the team for this work are from Lome and Bobo-Dioulasso. And ** has a team from La Réunion and Mauritius. Neat to see this wave of African led modelling.
Paper 2. Open Source ('free as in beer') Brewing.pdf
Paper 1. Open Source LCA CLEWs.pdf

That previously working DOI is now broken.  Try this download instead:

PS: and judging by the file name for the brewing paper, has OSeMOSYS flipped to the "free as in beer" doctrine — much easier to explain than all that complicated stuff on copyright law and social progress . 😬

Best, Mark
