Hello all
I listened to David Roberts from Volts interview Jesse Jenkins, Princeton University and originator of the open‑source GenX framework, last night — and thought their discussion might be of wider interest:
The podcast is both technical and upbeat. With an avalanche of detail on how to deal with intermittency (or whichever term you prefer) across a range of time scales and geographies and, of course, including dunkelflaute. Green hydrogen does not gain much airplay, but its potential role is more related to steel‑making and chemical synthesis than to electrification and supply. The Allam cycle utilizing combustion in pure oxygen is mentioned.
A link to a pre‑print on "demand sinks" was mentioned by Jesse (00:45:00) but has yet to materialize on the Volts landing page.
The comments to the podcast are worth skimming too. I see Amory Lovins (RMI) has entered the fray — and highlights the missing contribution of energy efficiency in this general mix.
with best wishes, Robbie
