Hi everyone,

As part of the OpenPlan 2.0 research project, the open and free OpenPlan Tool is being further developed for use in heating planning.

We would like to invite you to a stakeholder workshop on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. You can register for the event free of charge via the following link: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/752ae133-c3e4-4d88-96ff-bb2e904b00ec@039d85e5-be25-4a36-8a01-d480397b8e69

Please note that the workshop will be held in German. However, the tool is also available in English. You are welcome to test the tool independently of the workshop and contact me if you have any questions or require further information.

With this workshop, we would like to provide an insight into our project work and look forward to presenting newly developed features.

The workshop will focus on the following four core areas:

  • Presentation of the OpenPlan 2.0 project
  • Classification of the OpenPlan Tool within municipal heat planning (Kommunale Wärmeplanung)
  • Modeling heating networks with the OpenPlan Tool
  • Gathering feedback on the new features

At this point, we would like to point out that the OpenPlan Tool is continuously being developed. Based on the feedback from the interactive workshop, the tool will be expanded with further functionalities and continuously improved. With this approach, we ensure that the requirements of the users for the OpenPlan Tool are met in the best possible way.

About OpenPlan:

As part of the OpenPlan 1.0 project, a cross-sectoral, open planning tool was developed from January 2020 to June 2023. This tool is used for the optimized planning of energy systems for the supply of electricity and heat demand in districts, commercial areas, and industry.

With the OpenPlan 2.0 project, the OpenPlan Tool is being further developed for use in municipal heat planning (Kommunale Wärmeplanung). The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as part of the 7th Energy Research Program in the technology-oriented system analysis funding area. Further information and access to the tool can be found on our website: https://open-plan-tool.org/de/

We look forward to a constructive exchange and the joint further development of our project.

Best regards,
