Hello all

Just for your information — and am not suggesting for a moment that you should read the attached PDF.

But I just submitted an abstract on data standards to the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) Legal Network (LN) Legal and Licensing Workshop 2023 (LLW-2023) to be held mid‑April 2023:

  • Can non-open data standards legally taint conforming codebases and databanks?
  • release 02
  • PDF md5sum: a4caf397aad19aa3fe2e66cae048dc22

In brief, I believe it is increasingly necessary to think of free software as an amalgam of code and data — with that data necessarily being regulated by data standards that naturally fall under intellectual property protection. Which then introduces a new set of legal issues to work though.

with best wishes, Robbie
