Just resharing some event details that might interest you.


The Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering in partnership with Linux Foundation Energy is launching The Open Sustainability Policy Summit. This new, free event will gather lawmakers, policymakers, electric utilities, auto makers, technology vendors, researchers, and end users of energy to discuss the challenges and opportunities for an open source model of building both technology and standards to accelerate the energy transition. The summit will have a particular focus on how policy and regulation can support this collaborative approach, while ensuring communities are diverse and inclusive, and that the benefits of this transition are shared equitably.


Taking place May 2-3, 2024 at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center in Washington, DC, the summit will address topics including:

  • How open source technologies are driving sustainability

  • The impact of open source on the energy transition and sustainable transportation

  • Barriers to open source adoption in the sustainability realm

  • How policy, regulations, and laws can support open source to speed innovation in sustainability

  • Ensuring equity and inclusivity of energy access and the benefits of decarbonization


The agenda of sessions is now available. Highlights include:

  • TROLIE: Accelerating Policy Impact through Open Source Collaboration - Christopher Atkins of MISO and Tory McKeag of GE Vernova

  • The Path to 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy: Data Driven Decarbonization and Industry Collaboration - Hallie Cramer of Google and Audrey Lee of Microsoft

  • Advancing Energy Policy with Open Energy Planning - Max Parzen of Open Energy Transition

  • Identifying Data Dependencies for a Robust Granular Certificate Marketplace - Katie Soroye of Level Ten Energy


Organizations supporting the event aside from LF Energy include EPRI, The Green Software Foundation, ISAdvice & Consulting, M-RETS, Open Climate Fix, and OS-Climate. The event is being spearheaded by the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins, along with other divisions of the university including the Bloomberg American Health Initiative, Center for Bioengineer Information and Design, EPICS, Energy Institute, JHU Sustainability, JHU OSPO, and Baltimore Social-Environmental Collaborative.
