Dear Openmod Community,
Colleagues may be interested in an upcoming Supergen Energy
Networks webinar by Dr Hannah Bloomfield of Reading/Bristol
University on energy meteorology data outputs from the CLEARHEADS
project, with the talk titled
"CLEARHEADS: Calibrated European historical and near-future
energy-meteorology variables for energy system modelling".
The webinar is 28th Oct (this Thursday) from midday-1pm BST
[1-2pm CEST].
Registration is here, Zoom joining info will be circulated to participants.
Do forward the invite on to any interested colleagues - all
welcome!
Best wishes,
Matt
As part of our lead up to COP26 activities, this
talk will show some recent meteorological outputs from the
Climate-Energy modelling for Assessing Resilience: Heat
Decarbonisation and the Northwest European Super grid
(CLEARHEADS) project that can be used to model the impacts of
climate variability and climate change on GB and European energy
systems. The team will demonstrate the need for high quality
weather and climate data to be used in present and near-future
energy systems modelling studies, and discuss some of the
challenges in creating appropriate weather-dependent energy
system model inputs. The talk will conclude by showcasing the
possible impacts of climate change on GB and European energy
systems components and outlining next steps for the remainder of
the CLEARHEADS project.
Speaker Bio:
Dr Hannah Bloomfield is a research scientist at
the University of Bristol, who has spent the last eight years
working at the University of Reading studying the impacts of
climate variability and climate change on national-level power
systems. Hannah specialises in modelling UK and European
electricity demand and renewable generation. She has also worked
on developing these tools for Mexico and multiple regions of
Africa. A key outcome of her work has been to improve the
accessibility of large meteorological datasets to
non-specialists.
