Dear openmod community,

Good day.

Firstly, I would like to first introduce myself, I am Sarah Zaidan, a current PhD student at Khalifa University in the UAE. I am currently working in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department. My thesis work mainly revolves around energy system modeling, in general.

As such, I am planning to conduct a “survey” for ranking the importance of specific assessment criteria/elements related to energy system models. The survey will be comprehensive but relatively simple to fill out. It will be designed in a way to choose numbers out of given scores to rank the criteria/elements accordingly. It should not take time if you are somehow familiar with the main/basic characteristics of these tools.

I understand the majority of the members in this community are either experts in the field, full-time modelers or at least had some level of experience/exposure to these kinds of modeling tools. Hence, I would like to know who would be interested to take part in this survey. The feedback/input I will be collecting from it will carry on with my thesis work. If you are interested and willing to be part of this survey, please fill in the following Google form – https://forms.gle/KzAs7usaVWdvPgmN7

I will be sending the survey once completed to each participant who filled out the form. I appreciate everyone’s participation and I welcome anyone who thinks their input can add value. It would mean a lot to me to have your support in this matter.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any enquiries. My contacts are below:

I look forward to receiving your confirmation 😊!!

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Sarah Zaidan

Hello Sarah, hi everyone

Your survey looks as if it will be very useful (without having drilled down into the questions yet).

To note also there are a couple of inventories covering open source models already.  The Open Energy Platform (OEP) maintains a set of factsheets:

And this Wikipedia page might be useful, both the main article and the talk page listing models to add:

And some external links on the bottom of that page too:

The openmod forum can be a useful source of information, albeit less structured.  That second URL is a search string:

good luck, Robbie
