Dear all,

We are excited to announce the open-source release of EPRI’s US-REGEN (U.S. Regional Economy, Greenhouse Gas, and Energy) model, which is available at: https://github.com/epri-dev/US-REGEN

REGEN is a detailed and flexible energy systems modeling platform designed to explore a wide range of long-term scenarios. It draws on decades of EPRI research in technology assessment, policy analysis, energy-economic modeling, and company planning. This open-source release includes the electric sector capacity planning and fuels supply modules with extensive documentation, which was recently updated. End-use scenarios are provided as energy demand inputs, allowing economy-wide analysis.

The model is widely cited across academic, research, industry, and policy communities for its rigorous treatment of complex modeling areas, including:

Thanks to our Openmod colleagues for their encouragement and support for this effort. We encourage others to explore the code, run scenarios, adapt the model for new applications, and join a growing community working toward more affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy futures.

To learn more, explore the user manual and recent peer-reviewed publications on the US-REGEN site, or check out the introductory slide deck. Feel free to reach out with questions.

EPRI issued a press release here.

Best,
John
