Hi all,

I've just started using OpenMeta recently and have been playing around with a few different tools. For now, I've settled on MailTags and Mail Act-On for e-mail, and Default Folder X, Tagger and Tag Folders for documents. I've also been using Tags and TagLists a bit and have DEVONthink Pro, but don't use it at the moment. I do have the DEVONthink sorter running all the time, but never actually use it (one of these days I will...).

So here's my problem. I'm finding that sometimes, when I remove a tag from a file, that file still shows up in OpenMeta-aware apps when I do searches on the tag that I've removed. For example, I have an "@now" tag for stuff that I'm currently working on. I add the tag in a variety of ways, using either Default Folder X, Tagger or dragging onto a Tag Folder alias, and I use a Tag Folder to see all the stuff that has that tag. When I've finished a project, I remove the @now tag from the related files, usually using Tagger, or sometimes using Default Folder X. The related e-mails also use the @now tag, but that's all handled with MailTags and Mail Act-On. The weird thing is that, once the tag has been removed, the file only shows up in the OpenMeta-aware apps, but not in a Spotlight search for "tag:@now", which only shows the files I'd expect to find.

This doesn't happen all the time, but I haven't figured out if there's a pattern to when it does happen and if there's something specific I'm doing to cause it. And I've found that the only way to fix it is to e-mail the files to myself and delete them from my computer before recopying the files that I've e-mailed. But there must be an easier way....

Any ideas? Does it have anything to do with moving files around to different folders? The files usually get tagged while on the desktop, and then I move them to another folder after tagging.

Cheers,

~Grey

So am I the only one having this problem?

Did you ever get this resolved? It seems to be showing up for me as well (in Finder smart folders).

Not really. It doesn't happen as much as it did in the beginning, and it always seems to clear itself up in a day or so when it does happen, so I've mostly just been ignoring it. In the beginning I would get lots of files with this problem and they would take days to eventually go away, but now it's just one or two about every other day and they fix themselves quickly enough that it's not that much of a bother.

I don't know if the problem lessened because of software upgrades or because I stopped using a particularly troublesome application or what.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Well, I suppose I could at least give you a list of the OpenMeta-aware software that I'm using, and you can compare it to what you're using. Here goes:

- TagFolders
- Tagger
- MailTags (Mail.app add-on)
- Default Folder X

and I've recently started using DEVONThink, which is OpenMeta-aware. I've also recently purchased Path Finder, which has basic OpenMeta support, but I don't use the program very often.

Most of my tagging is done with MailTags and Default Folder X, then I browse/access tagged files using TagFolders. Untagging is mostly done with Tagger.

One other thing I've been seeing just recently is that tagged e-mail messages aren't showing up in TagFolders anymore. No idea why.

Anyway, hope it helps.

Cheers,

Grey
