Hello to all.

I'm sure Openmeetings will rock, once I'm able to install it
successfully. However, I'm having problems doing so.

The install of the latest Openmeetings version is on a CentOS 5.1
box. I have jdk-1.5.0_11-fcs already installed (and really don't want
to change it as I have another well-working app using it). I've
successfully installed apache-ant-1.7.0, red5-0.7.0, ImageMagick,
OpenOffice.org, swftools, ghostscript, etc., as per instruction. Red5
seems to work, as I'm able to access the demos. I've created a
database in MySQL, and have the proper user permissions assigned to
it. I've tweaked the hibernate.cfg.xml file, again as per
instruction. (I might point out that the installation instructions
aren't quite accurate, but I believe I've installed correctly for my
OS and version of Openmeetings. For example, the instructions state
that a subdirectory "xmlcrm" will be created in the /usr/local/red5/
webapps directory. Not so. The directory is called openmeetings, and
I've found that it must be located in /usr/local/red5/dist/webapps/
root to have any chance of working. At least, that seems to be my
experience.)

Anyway, when I try to reach http://192.168.x.x/openmeetings/ from my
desktop (this server doesn't have X installed), I get the following:

Autoconnect
NetConnection.Connect.Closed (my note: this is after a count down)
rtmtp://192.168.x.x:8088/openmeetings/hibernate

I've tried every combination of possible fixes I can think of, but no
joy. I'd really appreciate your help in getting Openmeetings up and
running.

hi,

OpenMeetings 0.5 Final (and previous version)
are build against red5-0.6.3 not red5-0.7. They will throw an error and do not start correctly in red5-0.7.
You do not need apache-ant to install openmeetings 0.5 Final from the binary Package.
However you may need it to compile red5-0.6.3 for your distro.

I removed some old instructions regarding *xmlcrm*, and changed them to openmeetings:

Ah, the man himself! Thanks for the reply, Sebastian. I'll start the
whole process over, this time using red5-0.6.3. I'll let you know
what happens (or reach out for help, if necessary. Hope it's not too
late in the day in Germany :-) ).

Alas, still no joy after installing red5-0.6.3. I at least made it
into the install screen and, after filling out all the information, I
was told that the installation was successful. When I tried to get
into the application from the link on the installation successful Web
page, I got the following again:

Autoconnect
NetConnection.Connect.Closed (my note: this is after a count down)
rtmtp://192.168.x.x:8088/openmeetings/hibernate

Arrrgh. Now what should I try next?

192.168.x.x is also your red5-host?
and you did take the openmeetings package from the download page?
I did not encounter similar behavior, check the red5.log/openmeetings.log if there are any java-exceptions.
If you did succeed in the install-form and did get to the page with the link to the installation all fields are correct populated to the database. So maybe a more general error with your red5-installation.

So if you yo delete all logs and just restart red5 are their any errors in the red5.log/openmeetings.log

Are you still awake? Amazing.

I've finally succeeded! In config.xml, I had set the following:

<rtmphostlocal>localhost</rtmphostlocal>

Setting it to the following fixed my issue:

<rtmphostlocal>192.168.1.5</rtmphostlocal>

I'll now noodle around with openmeetings a bit to see if all the
pieces work, at least from internally. I wasn't able to do the
OpenOfficeConverter piece because the Xvbf part is different in CentOS
5.1. I installed OpenOffice from the CentOS repository, so the
version is 2.0.4., so I may need to DL the latest and greatest from
the OpenOffice Web site nad install that version to overcome the lack
of Xvbf in my distro.

Sebastian, thanks for being there.

Wow, glad i found this thread. I was trying to get openmeetings run on
the latest red5 version 7.
So installed the 6.3final version and tried again; check all ip's and
set them to my local IP no. but with no luck;
i still do not get any further than the first stage that returns:

Autoconnect
NetConnection.Connect.Closed (my note: this is after a count down)
rtmtp://192.168.x.x:8088/openmeetings/hibernate

I have added newer ant related jars, mysql related jars.
mysql-connector-java-3.1.14-bin.jar & mysql-connector-java-5.0.8-
bin.jar
Created a dbase with utf-8
CREATE DATABASE `openmeetings` DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE
utf8_bin

Anything i def. have to check and most probably forgot?
Demo's in Red5 are working fine.
Machine : Windows XP SP2. ( yes before we start this on a FED5
machine ;-) )
openofficeconverter, imagemagick,GS, ANT1.7 ...all are there.

Kind Regards,

Nathan

watch your red5.log/openmeetings.log and scroll up where you find the first exceptions.

Sebastian,

I checked the Red5.log but there is not even a trace of the word exception..
Only could find this: JMX HTML adapter was not enabled
But server starts fine.
INFO   | jvm 1    | 2008/04/03 16:50:45 | [INFO] 2008-04-03 16:50:45,671 WrapperSimpleAppMain:( org.red5.server.Standalone.main ) Startup done in: 4421 ms
When i now call http://192.168.xxx.xxx:5080/openmeetings/
the strange thing is nothing happens in the log....

Thank you for your quick reply!

Nathan,

Did you tweak config.xml to read:

<rtmphostlocal>192.168.xxx.xxx</rtmphostlocal>

first check if the tables are populated in the database when you start red5. If this won't happen, there is an error in your database settings or database not available/listening.
If this is alright and you are able to complete the installation then check the connection string to enter the url in the config.xml. Do leave it blank and don't load the application from localhost!
If you have problem to connect try the Debug-Version:
http://$YOUR_IP:5080/openmeetings/maindebug.lzx.lzr=swf8.swf
and watch the OpenLaszlo-Debug-Window for Connection-Errors

Please check your red5 version. If it is 0.7 dont forget to disable
those lines

<!-- This will only work for Red5-0.6.3 !!
in 0.7 this throws an Error and the App will not start -->
<context-param>
<param-name>log4jConfigLocation</param-name>
<param-value>/WEB-INF/log4j.properties</param-value>
</context-param>

in WEB-INF/web.xml file.

Also be sure that db is created BEFOREHAND;
create database openmeetings DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE
utf8_general_ci; (collation could be changed to your collation order)

Hi Mc
I think you should change the red5 log level from debug to error.
In the wiki installation document you can find this instruction:

"you can reduce Error log output by switching $RED5-HOME/conf/
log4j.properties from DEBUG to ERROR to see only relevant value's) "

Note that in my installation, even with the log level to ERROR, the
install phase (after clicking the "Install" button) takes more than 5
minutes, and the first time made me think about a browser hang.
I think in DEBUG level it could take a lot more.

Best regards.
