Hello everyone!

I just wanted to let you all know I have been working on a new version of “OpenLoopz Web” for the last few months and I want to share with you what I have so far.  Check it out at:

http://www.openloopz.com

It’s early days and it is still a bit rough around the edges with many features missing and known bugs outstanding.  Having said that, I believe the main concepts are in place now and I believe it can only be beneficial to the project to get it out as early as possible and hopefully generate some interest as I continue to develop it in the open going forward.

While this version looks and feels very different to what’s gone before on the surface, all of the core ideas that define the philosophy of OpenLoopz are are still there (or will be soon). I will be writing blog posts regularly going forward explaining all of the new concepts and the ambitious goals I have for the project.

Right now, OpenLoopz is in alpha, meaning it is available to try out and to get a feel for the concepts and for testing purposes, but it’s not yet ready for general use.   The current (tentative) plan is to release a beta early in the new year, followed by a final 1.0 release in the summer.  In the mean time, I need to generate as much interest as possible so please - if you like what you see - spread the word! ;-)

The alpha is invite-only at this stage and I will be sending out invites gradually so I can iteratively scale-up the backend without any downtime.  However, I wanted to give everyone in this forum an invite from the off as a way to thank you all for supporting OpenLoopz over the years.  So if you are a member at time of writing, please submit your email address at http://www.openloopz.com/welcome and I will send you an invite via email.

Finally, I just want to make it clear I haven’t forgotten about mobile! Mobile has been a major design consideration throughout development of the backend and I hope to have a demo of the Android version soon.  But I still want to focus mainly on the web-app during this alpha/beta period as a kind of sandbox for trying ideas and adjusting things based on feedback. Then I can focus on the mobile versions (Android and iOS are planned) once things settle down post-beta.

I hope you like what I have developed so far.  As always, if you have any feedback - good or bad - please tell me all about it here on the forum.  Or, if you have an invite already, just mention me in a loop!  My user tag is @pd.

Thanks for your support,

Hi Paul! Excellent news! Hey I don't know if you remember me, Stephen Said from Australia. Your biggest Aussie fan!?

I just registered my neurotribe email address for an invite.

Also, I am happy to do an article on my Productive Droid blog for you when I get a chance to poke around.

Really excited mate. Well done.

Hi Paul,

I tried to register as well but got an error message that I'd need an invite for that.
I don't know if you still got the registration, if not I would like to apply hereby :)

Best

Hi Stephen,

Yes I remember you :-) Thanks for staying on the forum all this time and supporting OpenLoopz!

An article on your blog would be great, thank you.  Contact me via email (paul.d...@iode.co.uk) and we can discuss it further.

An invite is on it's way - you should have it within the hour.

Regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul,

Great news to hear you've been able to spend some more time on this project. I registered my email last night and am truly looking forward to seeing what you've been up to. I know there are a lot of people willing you on, me being one of them :)

Hi Jon,

Thanks for registering! :-) I sent you an invite earlier today.  Did you receive it okay?  Regardless, you should be able to create an account now using the email address you signed up with last night.

Regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul, thanks for the mail. Looks like it got filtered by gmail, probably something my end but will let you know if not.

Have tried to register twice and now can't log in. First time my invite expired, second time was successful, followed the confirmation link but when I tried to log in it didn't work. Again probably user error! If you can offer any suggestions I'd be grateful.

Many thanks
Jon

Hi Jon and Steve,

Apologies.  There was an issue with the re-register functionality which is fixed now.  Thanks for testing that part of the app out for me! :-)

You both should be able to register now without any problems, fingers crossed ;-)

Regards,
Paul.

Cheers Paul, one step further. I've got past registering and can see the welcome screen but I'm being logged straight out. Prompt is "You have been logged out. please enter your login details again to continue." Consequently everything below is greyed out and I can't interact with it.

For us alpha users, are you happy dealing with queries on here or would you rather us engage another way?

Jon

Hi Jon,

Sorry it's proving so difficult for you to get started!

This issue has already been reported by another user and I'm looking into it as a priority.  In a nutshell I need to have SSL enabled and I'm having problems with the provider at the moment, but hopefully it will all be resolved soon.

I'm more than happy for alpha issues to be reported here, thanks.

Regards,
Paul.

No worries Paul, these things are to be expected on an alpha release. Good luck getting it sorted.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let you all know that HTTPS is now fully implemented.

This should also fix the connection dropout issues that some users were experiencing.

Thanks,
Paul.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the update.
Login from https from "https://www.openloopz.com"
seems to be stable for me on Mozilla Firefox.
I also tried to add an inner loop from a new test one, and the former bug was'nt replicated.
It seem to work properly.
Congratz !!

Patrice
