The DIAL Open Source Center has announced their latest round of funding – what they call the Catalytic Grant program. These are small grants of about $25k that are meant to fund activities in open source projects and communities that aren’t typically covered by other sources of funding. Past recipients include ODK, LibreHealth, and Humanitarian Open Street Map.
All grant information, including details on the current themes (ie. what types of projects they will fund) can be found on this page: http://www.osc.dial.community/grants.html
As we continue to professionalize and formalize our community, we have realized a need for a better define the process by which we coordinate and vote on proposals and apply for funding. As such, the core team proposes this process to responding to funding opportunities: https://openlmis.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/OP/pages/379584562/Community+Proposal+Voting+Process+-+DIAL+OSC+Catalytic+Grants+June+2018
For this round of funding through DIAL, they have asked that the open source project only submit one proposal per project. This means that we will need to coordinate and vote as a Community on which proposal we would like to submit on behalf of OpenLMIS. This will follow the guidelines listed in the wiki link above.
The deadline for submission is fast approaching. Our proposed process for this round is as follows:
May 22: Deadline to submit a project proposal on Jira
May 29: Deadline for Community vote on selected proposal
May 31: Deadline to submit proposal to DIAL
Mid-June: Award recipients notified
Please let me (Tenly) know if you have questions regarding the process or timeline for submission. Looking forward to your ideas!
