Hello,

I am trying to install open-kim along with lammps on vagrant virtual box. I am not sure that I have done a correct installation, since I ended up running almost every command everywhere I saw in the documentation. The latest issue that I have is that the commands pipeline_runpair and kimitems cannot be found. Could you please help my system recognize that?

Thanks in advance and regards,
Alireza

Hi Alireza,

These commands are actually only accessible as part of our custom User VM disk image.  They're not actually a part of the KIM API.  I must apologize that we're in the middle of relaunching our User VM and it's not currently available online and, accordingly, the documentation you're looking at is out-of-date.  Sorry for all the confusion.  However, I can probably send you a copy of the User VM privately for your development purposes.  Let me just get the go-ahead from my group first --- I'll get back to you soon.

Cheers,
Dan

I should also mention that the User VM will already have everything you need installed, including the KIM API, ASE, and LAMMPS.  There's also a utility called `kimitems` on the User VM that will let you install Tests, Models, and Verification Checks painlessly, and various commands that allow you to run Tests and Verification Checks against Models.

Hi Alireza,

Now that you've gotten KIM working with LAMMPS, I'm wondering if you
still have a need for the User VM.  Can you tell me a little about what
you're trying to use KIM Models for?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi, Dan.

I might have the same problem with Alireza.
I was following the tutorial on developing kim test using ASE and LAMMPS. However, I ran into a problem that kimitems command is not recognized.
Currently I am running kim api v2.0.0 beta3. How can I run a test using this version?

Thank you.

Hi Yonatan,

I've been waiting on the official release of KIM API v2 to publish the user development platform, which has actually been converted from a VM to a Docker container for compactness.  If you're able to install Docker on your machine and give me your DockerHub user ID, I can get you set up -- let's continue this discussion off-list.

Thanks,
Dan
