Hello There,

Just wanted to let y'all know that I have implemented the OpenCL coefficient decoding portion of the j2k decode workflow.  I am testing it with select images from OpenJPEG.

Remaining steps are: dequantization, inverse wavelet transform, and colour decoding.

Cheers,
Aaron

Great Job! I think it is a very important update for decoding Dicom image using jp2k opencl method!

How about integrate your work into openjpeg2000?   like libjpeg-turbo have done huge improvement on libjpeg.

Hello Fuli,

Thanks. I would love to integrate this with openjpeg, once it is working well.
But, I would need some help from an openjpeg expert in order to do this.

This project has returned from the dead recently, which is promising, but am pretty doubtful
that this kind of help would be forthcoming.  And yet, hope springs eternal in the hearts of men,
or so I am told.

Kind Regards,
Aaron

Hello Aaron:

I really appreciate your enthusiasm and efforts on some works related dicom viewer!! Particullary improve jpeg2000 decoding!
But it is unfortunately that I do not have much experience on image encoding and decoding.
I am a researcher on an university and focus on computer graphics and visualization, particularly on medical visualization.

Actually, i had some thoughts on dicom viewer based on web before one and half year. From that time, i continually investigated and researched
all critical components for it both browser and server side. When i was at UC Davis as an visiting scholar last year, i involved a project about
remoting medical visualization.  However, my work is more emphasis on the realization of prototypes and technology paths, rather than a usable system.

So, i only can dump some thoughts and experiences for community. Support you continually to improve your jpeg2000 with OpenCL.
Now, OpenJPEG is now officially conformant with JPEG 2000 Part-1 and will soon become official reference software at the JPEG committee.

So, if you work on OpenJPEG like work of libjpeg-turbo, it is a great achievement absolutely!

cheers!
Fuli

Thanks, it is gratifying to hear your enthusiasm for this field. I would like to hear more about your investigation and thoughts about
a dicom viewer. I have also worked on medical visualization - 3D ultrasound and volume rendering. Perhaps we can collaborate
on the viewer project.
